!

I think I love you :D

(Yes, it's judgmental, but I honestly think the same thing. Ergo, you, anon, are my new favorite person now.)

You really think that EVERYONE who dislikes the sequels is just stupid? You can't even consider the fact that people can understand the movies perfectly and just not like them? Wow. The funny thing is, you probably think you're so smart, but really, the inability to realize that smart, perfectly reasonable people can have have different opinions than you is pretty ignorant and small minded.
For the record, I've never seen the sequels, and I really have no desire to.

THIS. :D

Thank you for intelligently defending the non-Matrix-likers. <3

No problem. The whole, "If you don't like it, you just don't understand it" just bugs the ever-loving shit out of me. It's arrogant and, like I said, small-minded. Yes, occasionally there are people who don't like something because they don't "get it" (though that's not always stupidity; there are a lot of reasons someone might not understand something that have nothing to do with intelligence--cultural references, generational differences, inside jokes, etc.), but to assume EVERYONE who dislikes something is stupid is just... WTF?

Thanks! It's actually one I made myself. ^_^
I like yours, too. Look out, Ginny's got a Death Note! O_O

Of course people can have their own opinions, I'm not an idiot (and no, I don't think I'm ~*zomg soooo smart*~ either). Is stupid the right word? Maybe not. I just think that people don't give these movies a chance at all because it's the trendy thing to say they suck. And when you give them a chance, I think there's something there. But you know what, hey, I've been in the minority of trilogy-defenders for a long time and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

For the record, I've never seen the sequels, and I really have no desire to.
See, you're making a judgment about something you've never seen. I don't care that you don't want to see them. If you're going to argue with me about their merit, though, I'd suggest actually watching the source material.

Except that's not what the secret is saying. At all. It's saying that people who don't like them are STUPID.

See, you're making a judgment about something you've never seen.

Aside from not being interested in them, I'm making no judgment whatsoever about them, actually. And come to think of, it, I'm basing not watching the sequels on having seen the first one and finding it entertaining, but not ground shaking. It was cool, but.. eh. I saw it, I liked it... and now I'm done with that "world" and have moved on. So, really, I'm actually basing my not seeing the sequels on far more than many "stand-alone" films I decide not to see.

If you're going to argue with me about their merit, though

But I'm not arguing about the merit of the films at all. Frankly, I'm not even talking about these movies, specifically; I'm talking about people who shut down any attempt at debate by calling their opponents "fucking stupid". The only reason I even mentioned not seeing the films is so you and/or the OP wouldn't think I was butt-hurt that the OP was calling ME stupid.

*raises hand*
I saw the second one. I found it tedious, annoying, and heavy-handed. No, I did not find it tedious, annoying, and heavy handed because it's popular to do so. I just didn't like it.

The fact that people like the OP don't get this, and that other people think that not getting this is OMG awesome?

Annoying.

Re: 117

[identity profile] johnwwells.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I went into the second one expecting something good, and came out immensely disappointed. So, no, it wasn't prior expectations. It was:

* Long, dreary, repetitive fight scenes
* Pop philosophy delivered with a sledgehammer's grace that was allowed to take the place of plot and/or character advancement. The Merovingian was the worst offender
* Sloppy pacing and plotting
* Cheap, heavyhanded emotional manipulation in the place of engaging acting and writing

But aside from those things, perhaps there was something I didn't understand. Was there some sort of subtle, Joyceian interplay of symbols behind the symbols? Were the laughably broad monologues on Free Will only there to distract me from the really deep stuff, which was SUPER-SUBTLE? Are the forced allusions and wordplay (Nebuchadnezzar = defend the Son = NEO IS CHRIST, Neo/one ANAGRAM ZOMG!!!) all part of a great symbolic scheme, rather than the obvious hackery they appear to be?

I don't know, because I've never seen the third movie, and sure as hell don't want to. It may be because I'm too stupid. I'd need an IQ of at least 55 to pick up on the subtlety of the Wachowski Brothers.

I've seen 'em, understood every word of them - actually had to explain them to a friend - and still don't like them.

OH SHIT WHAT NOW

I don't think people who don't like the sequels are stupid (though I cannot understand for the life of me why the general opinion of them is so negative) but yay, Matrix sequels fans unite!
