I've not read the book series but with you on GOT, OP. I was never a fan of GOT for those very reasons (also I found it incredibly boring). To me it was sensationalistic. I particularly hate gratuitous rape scenes and find it disturbing that so many people were fine with them. Here's hoping your book series is more in LOTR movie fashion than GOT fashion.
