hmm, i a l m o s t agree with you. which is to say that on the surface, this is exactly the type of film that attracts moralizing (despite how spot on it is re: actual growth for a lot of girls, maybe because it's spot on).

but it's david bowie, and he's honestly compelling to several generations of women (not me, this movie falls for me because I don't find DB threatening sexy. iman tho). which is to say, I find that a lot of antis do not attract films or shows where there's actually a significant population of people who love the older dude involved i.e. the older dude has significant social cachet. i think as long as he had the same reputation as back then, I don't see fans coming for him. very few idealists of any sort are actually consistent regardless of personal propensities.
