I mean...he didn't do a great job of congee and congee is dead simple in the first place.

He made it too spicy, which I figured is a Yunmeng thing. Yes it is dead simple, but you still have to know the basics before you can launch into it.

The basics of congee is to bring water and rice (ratio can vary) to a boil, then allow it to simmer until cooked. Wei Wuxian barely grasped the basics. And I know the whole "Yunmeng food is spicy" is canonical, but spicy regional cuisines are a lot more subtle than simply dumping handfuls of chilies into a dish. Wei Wuxian isn't cooking Yunmeng style, Wei Wuxian does not know how to cook.

I've also read sources that he made it super fast, so it likely wasn't cooked properly? AFAIK, congee is a slow cooked thing.
