I think the novelizations of the movies are still canon, except maybe for the parts that are contradicted by newer canon. "Between the scenes" official tie-ins are dodgy because I don't think anyone involved in the films actually reads them except for maybe Mark Hamill.

Either way, if you're coming into it from the perspective of someone who only watches the movies, they're two hot adult men whose relationship hits a lot of kink buttons. And, if you care to do some geeky digging, hits a few of the more controversial kink buttons as well. Not my thing, but sometimes the Star Wars be like that.

Oh, yeah, no I personally ship them though I get why someone might not. I was just adding useless (and probably retconned by now) EU knowledge re:age at being apprenticed.
