Deliberate hyperbole, dear. Obviously there are exceptions, and like I said, I had the anime-obsessed phase, so I can't say I never gave it a chance. I stand by the secret--especially in RL, where I've met a total of one anime fan I'm not completely appalled by.

Well, I can tell you from experience that most anime fans who admit they're anime fans are the apalling sort. The rest of us don't want to be stereotyped, TYVM. And what's the point of your hyperbole if it just makes you sound stupid and pretentious? Seriously? You could have put "with a few exceptions" on there and people wouldn't be dogpiling you like they are.

Frankly, I'm fucking sick of people like you who'll dismiss an entire genre (and its fans!) because a couple of examples within said genre weren't to your particular taste. I thought The Searchers was pretentious and boring, but I don't go around saying ALL WESTERNS SUCK, AND IF YOU LIKE WESTERNS I JUDGE YOU.
Editing because you know what, no, that was a bad metaphor: it'd be like if I said ALL MOVIES SUCK, AND IF YOU LIKE MOVIES I JUDGE YOU. That's what it's like.

I never said I'd dismiss fans completely; in fact, I've got several close friends who watch anime. I just have lowered expectations of most fans' maturity.

Also, I'd definitely say I've watched/read/generally consumed more anime/manga/merchandise than the equivalent of one movie. Until a couple of years ago, when companies started translating&importing more heavily, my friends and I had read and watched everything on the shelves.
