105. ...Is - is this secret sparkling?

119. That would be epic. *thinking about the crossover* *now she's thinking about two-face!Malfoy* *HAPPY PLACE*

122. HIGH FIVE OP. I picked it up before I'd heard the wank (because apparently I live under a rock) and stopped reading after the first couple of chapters. Yeah. Boring. Gah.

133. Wait, didn't we already have this secret? Only with a picture of Cowboy Bebop? You should go talk to the people who won't take any secret seriously if it's in capslock impact font.

138. I found the fridging more troubling, but then again... if you think that's bad, you should never read Civil War.

139. People take Azumanga seriously?

151. Nothing is as homoerotic as the slashers make it out to be. Except maybe Cable & Deadpool.

Jack/Ianto, though that is cannon.

Re: 151

[identity profile] morgana006.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Well, okay. I was thinking comics, though. I take it back.

A lot of things are not as homoerotic as the slashers make it out to be. And then pairings come around that are more homoerotic than they were made out to be...

Re: 151

[identity profile] neth-dugan.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
You get the TV shows where the fans slash them, the shows where the actors slash them, and then there's the rare show (not specifically set out to do this but has anyway) where TPTB slash them.

Most go into the first category, several but not a large number into the second. And then there's the rare third.

Comics however? The only comic I know is Elfquest and sexuality isn't the same there as it is for humans.

Re: 151

[identity profile] morgana006.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, my acronym-fu is failing me. What does TPTB stand for?

I take it back, comics can get pretty gay. Ten minutes at [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily will tell you that. But whether or not the writers agree with you is a completely different story. Some will deny it while writing some, uh... pretty homoerotic stuff (http://shortpacked.com/d/20080922.html), while others actively encourage and/or acknowledge the homoeroticism. Like the writer of Cable and Deadpool.

Nothing gets me all chatty like comics can, by the by.

Re: 151

[identity profile] neth-dugan.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
TPTB, The Powers That Be. It may be more of a TV fandom thing, basically those in charge. It can mean the writers/producers/etc but it can also mean the network folk too.

Those in charge, basically. Nabbed from the Buffy fandom (maybe?) and in wide spread use since. TV tropes probably has a thing on it.

As for that comic? *snickers* That IS bad (in a good way), probably why half the Smallville fics I've ever read (though not a great number, not a big fan since it started to go downhill in S2) are Clark/Bruce.

And I'm the same with my fandoms *g* I think most dedicated fans are!

Re: 151

[identity profile] morgana006.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I thought it was something like that.

Bruce and Clark are pretty... yeah. Just - yeah. The name of the comic is Superman/Batman. And that's not even exaggerating the comic that much.

Smallville just has some epic Clark/Lex, though. But I've only seen Season One and a few episodes of season two.

Re: 151

[identity profile] neth-dugan.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, same here. I think it would have been great to let Lex take a different route than usual, risky yes, but great. There was a very real possibility that he could have denied his traditional destiny and remained good but oh no, they had to go do the 'best friends, experiments, descent into darkness oh my, foe!' thing.

*headbangs*

Not the only reason the show went down hill though.

Re: 151

[identity profile] morgana006.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
The problem with Smallville is they deviated from the comics so much that they clutched at what they didn't deviate from, if that makes sense.

Ah well. At least I can get the comics references.

Re: 151

[identity profile] neth-dugan.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
From what I've heard there were early versions where Clark and Lex knew each other in childhood and got along or something. So it's not THAT unfaithful but I take your meaning.

Still, I wish that's how it went. And that they wouldn't make Lana so bloody full of tears and sobbing and emo.

Re: 151

[identity profile] morgana006.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's true. Lex was a Superboy fanboy, and had an entire room devoted entirely for him. Then it blew up, Lex lost his hair and hated Superboy forever.

...Yeah. But technically that's not canon; in fact, the most recent story (Superman: Birthright, very good, by the way) with Lex and Clark being friends in Smallville was only written after the idea proved so popular in Smallville.

Look! You made me go off again.

Less emo, more fun would be better for a lot of characters.

Re: 151

[identity profile] neth-dugan.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
It's not cannon? I'm guessing cannon works differently in comic fandoms then?

Re: 151

[identity profile] morgana006.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of comics have been around since the late thirties and forties, so after all that time, things change. In the eighties, DC had this event, Crisis on Infinite Earths that was basically supposed to reboot the entire universe to make it more streamlined and understandable... which worked for a few years. So anything pre-crisis was up in the air. The old Superboy adventures were no longer canon and stuff like that.

Then they discovered they liked rebooting canon and did it every few years. :/

Plus, they go through writers so fast that if a writer doesn't like something, they can retcon it by saying it never happened or was because of a "clone, robot or imaginary story", or sometimes they just ignore it. And then the next writer might say that it really wasn't a robot at all. And sometimes they'll try to say that everything that was ever in a comic starring that character is canon no matter how contradictory, absurd or confusing that makes it.

The only way you can get through it is roll with it. Or complain a lot.

Re: 151

[identity profile] neth-dugan.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
LOL

Sounds like Doctor Who's cannon on steroids, and that's hard to do. It's been around 45 years as TV shows (form most of it) books by various groups, audio dramas, some comics and it ends up somewhat like that. Though not as bad and no re-start per se, really. Ummm...

But yes, sounds pretty hectic. But it'd be more accurate to say that it IS canon, but it's canon in a reality that has now been wiped out and thus a kind of canon AU?

Re: 151

[identity profile] morgana006.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that works.

It's easier when you look at them as individual arcs or stories.

But if you ever get confused by the canon of superhero-based tv shows, that's because they don't have a very good role model. See also: Heroes.

Re: 151

[identity profile] neth-dugan.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
*snickers*

Oh Heroes. The first season was genius. After that it kind of... it isn't bad but it isn't genius anymore, it couldn't keep it and got too.... comicy in a bad way I suppose.

Re: 151

[identity profile] morgana006.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, first season took all the good things from comics, and then... yeah. It's okay right now, but it got pretty bad. It went all confusing and Summers' Family Tree-y (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SummersFamilyTree). (WARNING: TVTropes link)

Re: 151

I heard about that, and that sort of thing doesn't sell a show to me. Too much exposure to Eastenders growing up, dear Valen.

Wel except fro this one Harry Potter fic where Harry is Snape's father which is just crack.

TV tropes is a drug, a very addicting drug. You listen to the musical example of this trope? Oh Q.
