120. I hate people who do anything for the lulz, but I feel like maybe you need to have a talk with your friend, because you can't protect her from them all, and I think leaving a fandom because of trolls means they win. Don't let them.

157. You do NOT have to have any thing on the internet attached to your name. Brush up on good browser security, get an email with a name that has nothing to do with your own, a solid password. Anonymity is your friend.

165. Do you feel like your fellow writers would laugh, mock, or otherwise scorn you if you were to post your fic? If they're really as good as you say, they'll welcome your work and help you get better, if that's something you're interested in or that you feel like you need.

Well... it's not that I think they would openly ridicule me, I'm sure they'd act very supportive. But wouldn't they be scornful deep down? Don't you ever read a crappy fic and think, "Wow, I didn't know they were so... pathetic." I know it might sound stupid, but I don't want these people to lose respect for me. There is something I do in fandom that I'm relatively good at, which is a bigger deal for me in my RL, too, so that's what I usually work on instead of writing fic.

If they're the type to silently resent you, that's not a very healthy fandom, imho. I understand what you're saying about respect though. Here's the thing: there's crappy fic, and there's crappy fic. Even the best fic writer doesn't write a perfect winner each and every time, but if you're invested in doing a good job, even if your work doesn't match up to what you might consider the best of what's out there, your passion for the fandom has to count for something.

Do it for the love, not the lulz! That should be my motto or something.
