(Anonymous) 2009-02-23 09:18 am (UTC)(link)I've actually been considering the possibility of writing my 40-page thesis on this, so, obviously, it's a complicated issue. As it goes, though, I'd probably end up focusing on the generally one-dimensional character portrayals and the way that impacts the way one sees the world and their expectations from others.
Obviously, no rule is without exceptions; my secret was only stating what my personal reaction is like, based on my RL and online experiences.

I've run into many people who think all anime watchers are immature, and the only reason I've been given is, "cuz its a cart00n!!!1!"
If only people knew that cartoons/animation were originally made for adults... D:
