Wow, you are a real asshole. Let me clarify that, because I've read your responses to other people's comments and I find they make a great case for how you're a real douchebag.

You say you hate anime, but not because you are just prejudiced! Oh no, you've seen lots and you grew up, totally mature-like! What you are is a perfect example of the ex-fan, a miserable type of human being who delights in raging against something that they had to give up and to reduce their cognitive dissonance they've convinced themselves that it was all shite to begin with.

Your overgeneralization is one thing, but your condescension in the responses to other commenters makes you quite another. The last time I've seen such flawless conversation-choking techniques has been in the cultural appropriation debates and there's the kind of company you might want to avoid. Addressing people as "dear" like that, when you don't know them and devalue their point with a snippy yet unrelated retort, arguing semantics instead of their point, that's all the markings of a grade A troll.

You're not here to argue about anime's emotional depth (which is not even an argument, you're simply wrong), you're here to stir shit, and you've done it well. You even got people to apologize to you. Gosh, I think you came, didn't you? This post must get you hot and bothered like tentacle porn.

Really? I'm not even sure how to respond to this.

Firstly, yes--I am prejudiced, yes (which is not necessarily a bad thing; you're obviously prejudiced in the other direction, but prejudiced nonetheless. It's a neutral word), and I referenced my former experiences with the genre to qualify the statement.

As to the condescension, I will admit that, while I do use the term "dear" often to refer to others online and in RL, it does come off the wrong way in this setting. It was a poor choice.
As for being snippy, it's hard to respectfully reply to someone hurling off-base insults, and I'm only human. I do lose my temper.

No, I'm not really here to argue anime's emotional depth. I'm here to defend my right to use one's membership in anime fandom to initially pass a character judgment. The discussions have tended to center around my comment on depth, though, so I've responded in kind.

If I am a troll, anyway, wouldn't a response like yours be the best possible thing to come from this?

I'm sorry, did you seriously just say that prejudiced is a "neutral word"? For one thing, there are no neutral words, and "prejudiced" carries quite a few nasty connotations in these days of political correctness and acceptance as a virtue. To revel in one's prejudice, to consider it a good thing to have them and make decision about people isn't just being prejudiced, it's active discrimination. If that's the kind of person you want to be, I'm glad I don't know you.

I'm here to defend my right to use one's membership in anime fandom to initially pass a character judgment.

You have that right, obviously, because we're all free to think what we wish. But it *is* something that makes you an asshole. I'm sorry if that shocks you.

If I am a troll, anyway, wouldn't a response like yours be the best possible thing to come from this?

Sure, but everyone's got to vent. Personally, I like troll-baiting, which is why this is anonymous. From your responses to other people, I'm sure you know what that's like.

And one thing I would really like to know is what direction I'm so obviously prejudiced in. Please, judge me.

Positive or no, everyone has their prejudices--in fact, your explanation of the societal reaction to the word "prejudice" implies, to completely overuse the word, a prejudice.
If you don't want to know anyone who passes judgments, I hope you're satisfied with your own company. It's a key aspect to human interaction; priorities and preferences will always come into play.

Sure, to you, I'm an asshole. It's all relative, though, and your opinion isn't one that necessarily concerns me.

Okay, this is the point where I have to step out of the conversation.

That's fine. I wouldn't call our discussion nice, but it was entertaining, so thanks for that.

Ooo. That quotation of yours - "I'm here to defend my right to use one's membership in anime fandom to initially pass a character judgment" - has been argued about for centuries now, from it being Elizabeth Bennett of Pride and Prejudice fame's main fault and something she later has to atone for to present day examples of similar issue (Sex and the City, for example, where Miranda's quickness to pass judgment on issues nearly destroys her friend's marriage). Most people tend to want to minimize their initial gut reaction and heaven forbid get to know others. I despise Twilight, Harry Potter and even most Charles Dickens' novels as paperweights. However, this does not mean that I will judge a person based on this. People, and indeed friends, are welcome to like what they want. It's called open-mindedness. It tends to be a good thing.

On another note, Grave of the Fireflies, man, Grave of the Fireflies, because I also think a majority of anime is immature. I just think that some of it is not. Actually, it is similar to all movies in this respect, just that there are enough regular movies that good ones can't be counted on the space of four hands. It is the same as for books as well. Most are crap; some are decent, but still a very small percentage.

Others in the incredible and deep category would have to include: Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (if you are into vampire movies, this one is better than most others of that type), Porco Russo, Cowboy Bebop (either movie or tv show will do for this). There are others in this category, but I haven't gotten my hands on them to watch them yet, and I always watch before recommending.
