The fact that you felt a need to end your comment with that kind of gloating, self-satisfied bitchery just confirms every single one of my presuppositions about you personally and the community you came here to defend.
Yes, I own being snarky there. But being called an asshole gets my blood up and I responded (isn't that the same defense of Mike and Bryan that you have offered up in the past?). Just an observation (and a non-sarcastic one at that): you seem pretty angry yourself.

Avatar fandom has seen enough infighting. We've all behaved badly in the past in some regard, and we should all think very carefully about what kind of fandom we want to have in the future. Posts like the one this secret was based on make me angry because their motivations are so entirely negative, and further an environment of divisiveness.
I would love to see less spite and more joy in the way all our communities are run.

I think this is both true and obvious.
Look. There has been bad behavior on all sides, and I have no interest in being an apologist, particularly as I have been only tangentially involved in most of it myself.
I am as tired of the anti-Zutara icons as I am of anything else. I believe the purpose of shipping communities should be to share fanwork and celebrate a common interest, not to mock and tear down other parts of fandom. There is a reason I don't allow that kind of thing on my own community. There is a reason I spend most of my time in slash fandom. There is a reason I don't participate in capslock communities more than once or twice a year, and a reason why I almost always regret it when I do.

But to be completely honest, visiting the two central communities even for a few minutes sets me right back to where I was two years ago, infuriated that a small but influential core of mean-spirited people have so thoroughly set the tone for that part of fandom, such that no one inside it even seems to notice anymore.
I was a Zuko/Katara shipper when I came into fandom. (http://ali-wildgoose.livejournal.com/281675.html) There are reasons why I'm not one anymore. Many have to do with the show. Just as many of them don't.
