Er... is the 80s phase still holding on that much? I thought the 90s had already come back and maybe is on the way out again.

I just watched Treasure Planet for the first time this year as an adult, and I must disagree, at least partly, with your assessment. (I have yet to watch Atlantis.)

Announce that something in your personal life has come up (don't provide details) and you need to take a break for a month, minimum. Ask if anyone else is interested in stepping in during this period, and if nobody is, just slow fade.

Nah, I watched Atlantis in theaters when it came out, and I was like 19 at the time. It slapped then and it slaps now.

Something being great and underrated is not mutually exclusive with it flopping? In fact, underrated would align very well with it flopping at the time, since 'underrated' basically means it didn't get the respect it deserved. That's what the word means?

That aside, we do not diss Atlantis in this house. It's one of my absolute favourite Disney movies. Atlantis, Mulan and Sleeping Beauty are my top three.

Treasure Planet I'm only so-so on, but I adore Captain Amelia, Captain Amelia/Doctor Doppler, and the whole aesthetic of the space sailing ships, the energy sails, and the rimworld city moon. Aesthetically the movie is AWESOME. As a Treasure Island adaptation, however, it still lags behind Muppets Treasure Island, because Treasure Island itself lags behind Muppets Treasure Island for me.

Why not just tell it like it is? "Due to lack of interest over the last few weeks, I'm putting the book club on a hiatus" or something like that?

If it really has been just you engaging with the reading, no-one's going to be able to argue the point. And no-one's going to accuse you of being passive-aggressive if you address the issue directly.

Alternatively, if you really don't want to give up on it, maybe do a poll or survey type thing to see where the problem lies? "I've noticed a drop in engagement lately, is this a loss of interest in the community as a whole, or is there something we can do to reignite?"

I watched both as an adult, didn't like Treasure Planet at all, but I don't like the original Treasure Island book/films either, and I liked Atlantis well enough because I thought it was fun. So not sure it's an age thing.

This has been a mood for me in recent years - I've been super reluctant about posting f/f in my fandom because I've seen people react badly to anyone that create content that isn't just mindlessly fluffy (I like angst and hurt/comfort which have personal headcanons on, but I don't think I could survive another 'this is homophobia because my comfort characters are being imagined WRONG')

On the other hand its funny to watch them moan about people not creating content for their f/f ships for some reason.

I saw them when they first came out and enjoyed them both. If I had to compare them, I prefer Atlantis to Treasure Planet, but they're both decent movies. They certainly aren't worse than the movies of the Xerograph and Dark Eras.

I watched both of these for the first time last year and didn't mind them (I liked some of the jokes in Atlantis and ngl I like that emo song in the middle of Treasure Planet), but yeah didn't think they were THAT good either.
