Er... is the 80s phase still holding on that much? I thought the 90s had already come back and maybe is on the way out again.

(Anonymous) 2021-09-01 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
The 90s has phased in and out, but the 80s will never go away

(Anonymous) 2021-09-01 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, not for a while at least!

Soon enough we're going to start getting second-order 80s nostalgia. People who are actually nostalgic for Stranger Things and JJ Abrams movies and other things that were intentionally ripping off the 80s in the first place.

I don't know if it's on the way out, we had Fear Street this year and the first movie in that trilogy was set in 1994. I thought the 90s nostalgia was still coming back, and the 80s nostalgia was starting to go away.

"back to the 90's" graphic with 80's items and color scheme? Rubik cubes, cassettes, weird high tops all in aerobic wear colors...LOL

There's always a certain amount of overlap between decades. Early 90s was the decadent end of 80s aesthetics like the Memphis Design Group.

(Anonymous) 2021-09-02 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, FUCK YOU, the 80s are the best decade.

(Anonymous) 2021-09-02 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Woah, calm down.

(Anonymous) 2021-09-02 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. 1780s, of course. The finest.

Ok, but how do you know it will be the 90's, it doesn't necessarily cycle chronologically.

Well, they did reboot Saved by the Bell and it was a hit. A start, maybe?

(Anonymous) 2021-09-02 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
um... we're already in 2000's revival at this point, 90's revival was back in 2018 or so

In the beginning the Nostalgia events were spaced by twenty-four tear, then twelve, then six, then every two years. The last one with Gossip Girl…was a week. In four days, we could be seeing the Nostalgia jumping every eight hours until they are coming every four minutes.

You make valid points!

This is more than the 80s, IMO.

(Anonymous) 2021-09-02 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm still enjoying the imaginary 80s throwback with its almost pseudo cyberpunk aesthetic. I like 90s, too, but I'm not over the 80s yet.

(Anonymous) 2021-09-04 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
No thank you, I was a coherent teen during the 90s, and I'd much rather have idealized unrealistic 80s nostalgia for a decade I was barely around for. I particularly enjoy synthwave, it's great fauxstalgia.
