The problem with both-sides-ism like this is that, by definition, antis are always the ones who start it. All most proshippers want is to be left alone.

OP

Disagreed in my own fandom twitter experience by having proshippers show up in a friend's untagged personal post to tell them why incest is cool actually. People are just people, and a proshipper label doesn't absolve them.

Of course it doesn't absolve them, there are plenty of shitty proshippers too. It's just the whole reason for antis' existence as a movement is shitty, whereas shitty proshippers are just individually crap.

OP

I think you are putting aside that people get called an anti everyday for things that don't really matter. All of the people who I know have been called antis have no connection at all to whatever 'beginning of the movement' is. While you can't stop individual shitty people from taking up the label proshipper, you also have people going "...they called me an anti for not liking incest. I guess me and my bros are what's considered antis now, okay." I still hold the point of my secret that proshippers are responsible for the shifting and current definition of antis because of this.

First off, you've really got to clarify something here. When you say "not liking incest", do you mean thinking incest in real life is bad and saying so, or do you mean saying something like "Thorki shippers kill yourselves"? (just random pulled example, I'm not even in MCU fandom).

Because obviously these two statements will generate two vastly different responses, as they should.

Yeeeaaahhhh I have to say I'm having trouble believing that claim because I've seen plenty of people say that incest in fic isn't their thing and not a single person has given a shit about it. I'm inclined to believe that this hypothetical person said it in a "I don't like incest in fic and you're a bad/wrong/disgusting person if you do" sort of way.

Incest in fic is not my thing! But I don't care what other people ship. I have friends who have incest ships, and they understand I'm probably not going to read those fics and that's fine. I will gladly read their other ones. I've even said so, in a friendly way, and they GET IT. They don't push it on me. It's called having a healthy boundary - which doesn't require me to scream at them and call them names. Which I have no desire to do.

Exactly. One of my fandoms actually has an incest ship that's fairly popular and like I said, not once have I ever seen someone be bothered for saying they weren't into it. Everyone is cool with that as long as you don't make an ass of yourself over it.

Oh wow, so your one (1) case of anecdotal evidence trumps that of thousands of other people in fandom.
