i could not be rolling my eyes harder. do you think that our grandparents/great-grandparents/etc. worked because they adored their jobs and it gave them spiritual and emotional satisfaction? fuck no. they worked because it paid the bills. my grandpa spent his entire life working in a factory and he didn't enjoy it, but it paid well and had good benefits so he stuck with it. it's the lucky few who get to work a job doing something they truly love. most people work to make money so they can then afford to do what they love in their free time.

That's cool and all, but that doesn't work anymore? You can't really work in a factory, get good pay and benefits and also get to have a life. What I'm talking about, with commodification of hobbies, is that shit has gone to such shit that to live a "normal" life you HAVE to commodify your hobbies
