For the record, Lesbian Porn is not a FANDOM. It's porn. They don't sell hentai in the graphic novel section of Borders. It doesn't try to be anything more than smut.

I actually have less problem with you, because you ADMIT that it's porn. I enjoy porn as much as the next guy, but I don't try to elevate it to high art.

And, really, I don't even mind you being offended by my opinion. I just hate having to hide my opinion all the time because, damn it, I'm as entitled to think it's shit as anyone else is to be upset over something that offends them.

I have some fandom friends that would beg to differ. And maybe you're just on the wrong side of whatever fandom you're in, but all the gay-loving manga readers I know openly admit that yaoi = porn of the greatest kind. Don't get your knickers in a twist just because it sometimes tries to throw in some plot, hentai does the same thing and yeah, it fails a lot, too. Everyone ships everyone, no character, pairing or fandom is safe from shippers. Get over it.

No. The OP has clearly stated that "My sexual preference is not your damn fandom." I counter that yaoi is not a sexual preference. I don't care who reads/watches/draws/enjoys/faps to yaoi. But yaoi does not equal gay, so getting worked up over it and how "real gay men do not act like this" and screeching about yaoi being "gay porn for fag hags" is stupid. It's a fictional genre and it's aimed at women, so complaining that it's not a realistic depiction of gay men is ridiculous.

There's actually a difference between Japanese ponographic male/male graphic novels meant for women and the ones meant for men. The kind intended for and usually written by women is yaoi, and the kind intended for men is... buri, I think? In buri, there's a LOT less plot and the men are extremely masculine.

Bara. You can find always find at least one bara thread on /y/, and it tends to feature hypermasculine, mega-muscled dudes, pretty much the polar opposite of yaoi.

Personally, I say can't we have a happy medium? >_>;;

I'm actually doing an independent study project on the difference in relationships between yaoi and bara. Quite interesting, really.
