116. I disagree. Lovecraft is a mediocre writer with some really fantastic ideas that totally hit my happy place.

155. I don't...see what that has to do with the male gender. What? (Also, since the show is about their parallel journeys of maturity, arguing over which one is "more mature" by the end strikes me as kind of silly. They're both as mature as they need to be for that moment in time, and will keep improving.)

173. I haven't seen old Who and I've seen less than two seasons of new Who. I know new Who has race and gender problems. But are they really that much worse than old Who's?

173. Yes and no. Old Who could be very, very fail at times with race. But New Who can be just as fail. Turn Left (2008) is almost as bad as Talons of Weng-Chiang (1977), and Mind of Evil (1971) treats race better than both. And given RTD's remarks on how 'hilarious' the racial stereotypes in Talons are, I'm not sure it's unintentional. As far as gender goes, you need to remember that Old Who spans decades. But while there was fail there (during JNT's reign especially), there was never the systematic removal of agency from female characters like you get with Rusty, and Old Who female characters were awesome straight from the beginning (see Barbara, who's the real hero of her seasons).

But it's not just that they both can be fail, it's that New Who is written in the early 21st century, and it still manages to fail more than parts of Old Who.

173. Depends. Some of Old Who is about as fail in that department as New Who; some is much much better. But, given that Old Who was made a relatively long time ago in TV time, and that it's never really any WORSE than New Who at its worst, I'd say that New Who is, adjusted for 'inflation' so to speak, worse.
