Because that makes it totally justifiable to do it back to either people, amirite?

I find all of the "yaoi is not for gay males" comments patronizing, personally. Imagine if straight guys defended the fetish lesbian relationships in porn by telling lesbians "it's not for you, it's for straight men to get off to". I hear women complain about men fapping to male fantasies of lesbian sex all the time. Why can't a gay man complain about women getting off to stereotypes of gay men?

I'm not saying that women saying 'it's not for you' is right, but I will say that there is an ocean of difference between the two scenarios even though the words are the same with the gender swapped.

The pornification of women manifestly effects the treatment of women in day to day life. It's part of the rape culture that says women are just there to be used for sex. It's built into the doublestandard that while a man must be succesful, a woman must be succesful AND sexy AND know that it's her job to shut up and cede power to men.

Women just don't have anything like the power necessary for the "yaoi's not for gay men" thing to carry the same connotations.

I agree that the connotation is different, but I cringe whenever I see a minority group imitate the reprehensible behavior of a privileged group.

So yeah, agreed.

I think generally the comments aren't saying "I fetishize gay people", it's saying "I have a fetish which I enjoy; I understand it's not reality; I do not let it affect my day-to-day life; I just like it because I like it." Is there ANY form of erotica that doesn't, in some way, make a stereotype? Straight, gay, male, female...it's erotica. It's supposed to turn you on. It's not supposed to dehumanize anyone because most of the people commenting are saying that they DO NOT view actual gay people thus, only the characters. Which is why yaoi manga is NOT put in the LGBT erotica section.

As the person above says, the point, you have missed it.
