129. I loathe pubic hair >.> Nothing sets my gag reflex off like the thought of course, tangled hair 'round my naughty bits. But I also hate hairy men :P So I like to imagine everyone is perfectly hairless when naked except for eyebrows and what we normally think of as "hair".

I don't quite understand the counter-claim that not shaving is "awesome!". I mean, if you've got no problem with it, good on you, but a patch of hair that bits of toilet paper get stuck in isn't exactly what I'd call something to be especially "proud" of.

I... can honestly say I've never had that particular problem. If you were getting toilet paper stuck in your pubic hair, maybe you were doin it rong XD

It's a rebellion against what's deemed socially acceptable/normal. Society pressures women into shaving their groins and armpits (and the requisite legs) because women are supposed to be smooth and delicate and all that shit. Being proud of not shaving is being proud of rejecting societal pressures. There's actually a community dedicated to women not shaving (I forget the name of it).

Also, when you think about it? The entire human body is rather disgusting. It's amazing what scruples you let go of when you want to kiss and/or have sex with somebody, though.

When that argument was first introduced to me it blew my mind ^^< Because I had been hating on it long before then. My life thus far has been a somewhat sheltered one, in that social issues aren't often brought up, and in any case I've lived my life kind of oblivious to and on the fringe of society anyway.

To make a long story short, no one told me I had to shave to be attractive or feminine or whatever. I did it just because I wanted to, and I continue to do it because I hate the feeling of stubble and the itchiness it brings wherever it is (legs, armpits, groin). That doesn't make me a traitor to womankind.

And yes, the human body is rather...unpleasant to think about. Fascinating, but not pleasant >.>

You know, technically, breathing and living in general are body functions. I'm pretty proud of doing those things.

If we were meant to be hairless, nature would've made us that way. But we're mammals and mammals have hair.

Maybe you ought to take your complaint up with The Management.

And if we were meant to have a cure for cancer, we'd have it by now.

Genetics are not perfect. Mutation is evidence of that, and mutation is how we evolve. Other primates have more body hair than humans do. As we've evolved into the species we are today, for whatever reason, it has proven genetically superior to have less.

I've known women who had so much hair on their legs, they had to shave twice a day to stay smooth. I've known women who had so little hair on their legs, they only had to shave once a month. Neither of these states are unnatural.

And shaving isn't necessary.

Even the people who say they do it because it "feels better" only think and do so because they've been brainwashed by society. Fun fact: long ago, body odor hardly phased people. Now, however, the sole reason anyone wears deodorant is because someone at some point decided that body odor was repulsive and needed to be combated. It then became a societal norm. (However, the fact that the human diet has changed over the years has a little something to do with this as well.) I must say that is one implanted "norm" to which I adhere, but the shaving thing? Nah.

I never said shaving was necessary ... ? I'm not really sure why you left this comment to me, as it's not really relevant to anything I said.

I personally don't care if you shave or not. Do whatever you feel like. However, your need to insult people who do shave is a kneejerk reaction to anyone who you think even MIGHT judge you for what you do. That's not classy.

I certainly never said anything about people who don't shave being brainwashed by the very people who enjoy rejecting society and it's norms. You know why? Because I know it's a personal choice, and I don't care what anyone's reasoning for doing or not are. It's their own business and theirs alone. I don't judge another person's inner strength by their amount of body hair.

OH! And as far as body odor and once upon a time, in a far away land... That's because people in those times didn't understand the connection between cleanlines and health. Also, it wasn't as easy to jump in the shower, where the pipes magically bring us clean, warm water, we have prepackaged bottles of shampoo and soap, and a wonderful device called the blowdryer to dry us off afterward. Lots of things have become societal norms because we have magnificent modern conveniences and modern day knowledge.

But all that's still not relevant to my previous comment, so. idk.

No you're not. You're glad to be doing those things. Being proud of something entails you consciously working for it. For example, I can be proud of refusing to hide in the closet, but I can't be proud of my bisexuality because I had no choice in being bi.

Also, nature meant for me to have crappy eyesight, but I fix that with contacts. Humans do lots of unnatural things; I don't see why shaving should get so much flak unless you're doing it because someone told you to and it's not something you really want to do.
