Every time I hear anybody say anything like this, I am inclined to believe that they haven't actually watched any significant portion of the damn show.

Forgive me, but I don't see how having an established gay relationship that is treated exactly the same as the het relationships on the show is fetishizing a damn thing. If you're complaining about the fanservice, then you've got a double standard, because the show does the same thing with het. If you're complaining about everyone's apparently loose orientations, you've got a somewhat more legitimate complaint, except for the fact that a point has been made to give every character's encounters appropriate weight and depth, regardless of whether they're f/f, m/f or m/m.

Torchwood has lots of sex in it. Forgive me for being somewhat fucking relieved to have a show that doesn't care so much about what genders are involved in said sex.

I know. But the original poster is trying to say Torchwood somehow treats gay relationships differently than most yaoi. I would argue that's a bad example to use if we're talking depth here.

I think the show fetishizes both the straight and gay relationships on it. *shrug* Doesn't make my point any less true.

Well, I said relationships, not sex, but that was probably a bad way to word it anyway.

I just mean Torchwood is a show that writes relationships in a shallow way. Uses sex to sell, doesn't treat them with much depth. Which is fine, I suppose. A lot of shows do that, and Torchwood is at least entertaining at the same time.

I admit that this is just my personal opinion. So I hope I don't get rabid Torchwood fans yelling at me for it. That's just how I feel.

The show doesn't explore the relationships much on screen, sure. I wouldn't actually like the show as much if it did--I'm watching people shoot aliens, I'm not really looking for a soap opera.

So yeah, the relationships aren't addressed so much. The characters are, though, which is how I prefer it handled for a show like Torchwood. The characters are very developed; when you're told that a relationship exists between two of them, then, well, that's where the fans fill in the rest.
