FWIW, there used to be a huge number of monsterfuckers on Tumblr who wrote character/reader and shared it with each other. So that’s a self-insert “fandom” that thrived. The porn ban chased a lot of them off, but some of them are still around on other parts of the Internet, like https://archiveofourown.org/series/1218198

I feel sorry for people who are insecure about their abilities, but constantly seeking validation like that is really tiresome. That said, I think that comforting words and praise is exactly what they want and what they're clearly fishing for. I just would caution you to be careful going down that road because for a lot of insecure people, one comforting validation is never enough. You don't want to end up as someone's emotional dumpster, I assume.

Why does FF.net get such hate? For a reader, it is much more intuitive an interface than Ao3's. Short of a web ring of personal websites, it is the best out there.

Yeah same. If I watch someone for a certain kind of content, then I want that content, not real-life check-ins, it's why I don't watch youtubters who do real-life updates often or at all because in the nicest way possible: I do not care about their personal life.

From what I hear: They've had rule changes and purges in the past without warning and nowadays the site owners don't really care about it. Though I just went on there and it looks like they're getting updates as of about half an hour ago? Which makes speculation that it's only a matter of time before the owners just let it die seem a bit less likely.

I mean I write a lot of OC-centric and OCxOC. So I feel ya.

I mean it may not get as much views, but some canon worlds, you can pull it off. At the very least you worry less about harassment. Never thought "nobody cares but you" would fill me with relief instead of hurt.

For whatever reason people are just really snobby about the quality of fic on there, as if it's all terrible when that kind of thing is entirely dependent on the fandom. Personally I find Ao3 and ff.net easy to navigate and use whichever one I require for the fic I'm after: typically if I'm looking at on older fandom ff.net will be the place to go, but current would be Ao3. But sometimes I poke about both regardless just to have a look.

As a reader, I find the interface far less usable and intuitive than AO3's. And I find the quality of fic lower as well.
