I don't know, that is one of my annoyances with fandom. Characters are never allowed to grow as people, and god forbid they start off not good but then slowly become good.

But then again, Avatar fandom is not the first fandom where I have had to deal with this crap.

It seriously cracks me up that MY VERY FAVORITE THING about ATLA is the process of growth and change, yet HALF OF FANDOM kind of would rather people stay exactly the same.

Except Zuko. Because he has to turn good so he can have sex with various people who shall remain nameless.

Fandom likes to make caricatures out of characters, they boil them down to a few traits, and lets roll with it.

Aang is always a goof ball, Katara is always mothering everyone, Sokka is always the comic relief, and so on so on son.

Zuko gets to change because he was on the wrong side.

I personally think the dearth of good fanfic is resting on the heads of people's inabilities to form a proper sentence or take criticism.
