I agree with you, but if Quasimodo were attractive or even normal-looking I don't think he would have the social issues he has. I doubt that he would have been forced to live in isolation if he had been normal-looking. I don't think he'd have been treated very well, but he probably would have been allowed out in public. He was never treated like an normal person, so he never learned to interact like one. I think his social failure stems from a devastating lack of experience and being treated like a monster. So if he were attractive, he wouldn't have been raised in the same way and wouldn't have the same personality. So it's really difficult to say how Esmerelda would have percieved him.

Forgive me if I got something wrong--I read the book and saw the movie, I could be mixing canons.

I get what you're saying, but I think what the OP means is that if Esmeralda were to disregard Quasimodo's appearance, she still would not have been attracted to him. Could be mistaken, but that's how I read it.
