Then you should have said as much. "Informing" me that it "exists" comes off as hella condescending, it's like saying the sky is blue.

I'm tired of people making him gay, yes, because I don't get why the heck they can't just be best friends, but that element is completely lost on those who wear only slash goggles and think if two characters are male they have to be together on that basis alone.

I seriously didn't mean anything by it. I just threw it out there. You're really defensive. And I am informing you of that.

Like I said in my initial comment. I've seen some really slashy combinations, and I've seen some where I didn't get any slash vibes at all (Matt Caplan and Anthony Rapp are prime examples of this). I've seen very gay Marks who are just friends with Roger, I've seen Rogers who seem more interested in Mark than Mimi, and I've seen Rogers and Marks who appear to have history of more than just friendship. The beauty of theatre is that you can get the same lines said over and again and different actors can take in so many directions. You get different chemistries with the combinations and that's why it's so much fun. The show is still evolving just based on the actors in the roles.

Interestingly enough, I saw an understudy go on as Mark once, who is my #1 gayest Mark ever, and he was at the time, dating the actor playing Roger and there were no slash vibes at all during the show. They were total BFFs and Mark wanted Mimi to be his fag hag.

And, yeah, I see the show a lot. I keep having a great time. :)

I know I'm defensive, when someone raises my hackles I stay that way a while. :P Another 'the sky is blue' type thing.

I guess, despite the different roles, and I haven't seen the show much, I would see it more if I could (yay going in April), I still wish they didn't get slashed so much. It's a preference thing, I know - I absolutely love them as two guy best friends, and sometimes I think it's a bit of overload when you already have two homosexual couples. Which isn't to say "omg you can't have too many gay people", or anything that might sound hateful like that, it's just...I don't know. Too much, like trying to force everyone gay for like I said, slash goggles.

What really bothers me is people basing it off the movie. I can't for the life of me get Roger/Mark slash from the movie.

I totally see where you're coming from. We obviously have a difference of opinion (my fic journal has 20-something stories with a Mark/Roger tag and like 10 stories with a Mark/Roger friendship tag), but I get where you're coming from with it. While I slash that, I'm not someone who can slash everything. I have to be able to see it somewhere. I do get annoyed with the slashing just for the sake of it.

(Harry Potter/Ron Weasley slash -either with each other or other people- is the weirdest thing in the world, I can't even imagine Ron dealing well with anyone around him being gay, let alone being gay himself. Harry, well, in my mind Harry really shouldn't be shipped with anyone, but I like my emo heroes. This might explain why I like Doctor Who so much.)

Oh, yay for seeing it! I just saw it this weekend. The cast is so solid. I have my issues with it, but overall, it's a good cast to be seeing. And if you haven't already seen Adam and Anthony, you will appreciate their total nonslashiness.

Yea. If people like..back up their slash pairing or it's obvious in that like DUH THEY'RE KISSING AND STUFF XD I don't mind it. I guess Mark/Roger can really be a fencesitter type pairing for a lot of the fandom...er well, then again I don't really know...I love Rent but don't actively join any communities or anything, I just run into things like secrets on here or find it on other sites.

Harry Potter slash is one that absolutely boggles me. I can see why people slash Harry and Draco, but even then I don't get it. I can fathom any reason they would start bending each other over. Ron I can't imagine gay lol. I do slash Sirus/Lupin, not very seriously but eh I can see it.

Doctor Who sends me running away screaming, that fandom and fangirls scare the ever loving crap out of me. I've also been victim to..some pushy fans, to put it lightly.

So you saw reunion tour right? That's what I'm seeing, in New York. I'm super excited! (See, given time I calm right the hell down).

I'm not even in the Doctor Who end of the fandom. I'm in the possibly more frightening end - the Torchwood fandom. Which, if I hadn't experienced it from within before I started in things like [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets, I may have avoided it from the start. Yes, we have canon slash, but yeesh, so much of the fandom seems to be under the impression that "badass" and "taking it up the ass" cannot coexist. Awesome characters spiral into sad, homosexual stereotypes in mere seconds. Don't even get me started on ship wars. *facepalm*

Yeah, the current tour. I saw it in January, and then I saw it again this weekend. No Adam Pascal this weekend, he was out the entire stop, but that's kind of why I went, because Cary Shields was on as Roger. Fabulous. And the whole cast had totally upped their game so much since January. I'm seeing it again in April as well, so I'm excited to see where it goes from there. I honestly wasn't expecting a lot of what I saw out of certain cast members, so I was pleasantly surprised.

Ah yes the Torchwood end. Yea, I do find that one more terrifying. I tried to watch the episodes for the sake of identifying more with a couple of friends, and it looked interesting enough buit really isn't my thing. Plus the fact I was being told I "HAD" to watch it didn't help.

I don't like it though either, in general when they get whittled down to homosexual stereotype. It's uninteresting :/ I'm drawn to character first, and sometimes including how I think their love interest or whatever might affect them and, well, it gets kind of muddled from there but I still like to see the character pull out of fanfiction and art and everything just as awesome as he had been to begin with, if that made any sense.

I have a feeling..I'd see Rent more if I had more money and a way to get to it. I live fairly far from anywhere they would put on shows in general. I really hope both Adam and Anthony are there when I go x.x
