150 OP

Frodo/Sam is one of the ones I was thinking of, I admit. 'Cheapen' is the exact word I've used to describe my feelings about that particular pairing; it's nice to see someone agrees. Though I have to disagree about Sirius/Remus. I can see them having stress-relieving sex (which I don't count as a pairing because it's just sex and IMHO for a pairing to be a pairing it has to include romantic feelings as well) but it would still bother me since Remus is canonically heterosexual, so ... but let's not get into that. XD

*nodnod* Exactly with the OOCness. The entire issue involves, for me, the canon-debate which has been going on since fanfiction first arose and probably will continue forever, but I can't help but see it as disrespectful (though I give people props for intention too, 'cos I try not to judge authors out of hand).

but it would still bother me since Remus is canonically heterosexual

Ah, but I've got this idea that really good slash isn't even about gay and straight, it's about a previously unexplored/-discussed relationship between two characters. You know, their connection. I think those two really love each other in a deep, long-term way, and it's not about, you know, guys vs. girls. (Although I do hate when Remus/Sirius shippers act like he never loved Tonks and just knocked her up for the hell of it and then married her for that. He'd never do that, he's too sweet. I think he loved her as much as he could and they were a comfort for each other in a horrible time, but still, the love of his life was Sirius--and I think she knew that, too. Women know these things. ...But don't get me started; they're kinda my favorite ship ever. :D)

for a pairing to be a pairing it has to include romantic feelings as well

I also see your point there--I mean, there should really be a connection for it to count, otherwise, why bother making it those characters? Just have two random-ass hot people having sex; that's quite fine. But I'm working on a fic now with two deeply fucked-up people who are sort of thrown together and realize they're really similar and complementary and everything, but they definitely don't love each other; they're too screwed up for that. Not that my ~super awesome fic~ is necessarily anything to go by, but does it have to be romantic feelings in a pairing? I think it just has to be some kind of connection. It's certainly nicer if it's normal and loving, but villains need somebody too. Kinda. ;)

"it would still bother me since Remus is canonically heterosexual"

because bisexual people don't exist right :/

not saying remus is definitely bi, i just hate when people use a canon relationship as absolute proof for a sexuality
