For all its other flaws, I thought Merlin did it incredibly well. It didn't even feel historically inaccurate tbh. The black population of post-Roman Britain might have been minute, but not non-existent. I liked the idea that maybe she was the descendant of an African Roman soldier who decided to settle down rather than go back.
