Statistically, there might even be two! But I get more worried about incest. That many teenagers together, cut off from the rest of the world outside of their family, with no apparent non-family activities, doing school at home, church at home, ~extra-curriculars~ (as far as they go with these kids... I guess music and playing games?) at home. That with the complete repression of everything sexual as being inherently impure and entirely inappropriate until marriage... I can't help thinking that they must be harboring some unhealthy ideas about sex and that their repressed urges will turn into crushes on brother or sister.

But no, yeah, there is so much that's very odd about that family. The whole thing with the oldest one getting engaged and not even kissing her and being like "WE HAD A CHAPERONE. At all times. I swear. We just HELD HANDS. THAT'S ALL" was really funny, but also disturbing. They're getting both a "sex is dirty" message and a "have tons and tons of kids" message. There's gonna be some confusion there. :P And incest...yeah, you confuse kids long enough and some bad shit happens. And TLC or Lifetime or whatever it is will be right there with a very special episode. O_____o

The thing is... I have this instinctual aversion to their way of life, but I really like some of them? Jinger especially, and cousin Amy. They're like the two sane people in a world of Stepford Wives and Good-Ole-Boys. (No, really! Personality traits are innate to gender!)
It's just... yeah, the "trust god with how many children to have" when you're 18 years old and can't keep your dick in your pants because you just got married and since I'm sure having a nice self-help session as far as sex goes is strictly forbidden by their religious beliefs... I mean... lord. That's just more Duggars than the world is prepared for!
I also kind of... feel so bad for Josh and Anna, because of the stuff they have in store. The actual challenges of marriage and how to deal with disagreements. I just have a feeling that their first love is going to end up being way, way more painful than the "Michelle had boyfriends before me that left her with a lot of baggage" boys.
And just... when you never spend any time with unrelated adolescents (except the random Super Religious Giant Family conventions that they go to), where are those feelings going to go? It's hard to make an imaginary crush-target when you're 14 or whatever.

Oh, you definitely can't put it on your flist, it's too insane. I just have a link to it in my top bar thingy. It's addictive. :D And the Duggar posts are HILARIOUS, mostly because of the 'bitch plz' Jinger (sp?) .gifs.
I agree with basically everything you said. How are they supposed to have a real, mature, working marriage now? They're not ready; in so many ways they're still young kids, because they haven't been allowed to explore adulthood. I have a very long rant about marriage which I won't subject you to, but the short version is that people act like it's completely necessary and it legitimizes a relationship in the way nothing else can, and I think that's nuts. Married or not, they're still two really young people who barely know themselves yet, let alone their partner, and they don't know if they're sexually compatible at ALL, but now there's tons of pressure on them to have kids. Which sucks. :P
I will say this for the parents, though: at least they're not having more kids than they can care for. This whole Octo-mom thing is calling that into perspective; the Duggars are apparently debt-free. At least they're not asking for handouts or neglecting their kids. I still say they're nuts and should probably STOP with the kids like SOON, but at least they seem prepared to take responsibility for their giant brood. Just sayin'. I can't believe I'm defending them, but there you are. :P

But, it should be said, I think that the kids put on a pretty darn good show for their parents while they probably get up to ~naughtiness~ on their own. In one episode they were playing paintball and one of the boys quoted a line from Scarface. Now, I know that Ma and Pa Duggar didn't let them watch that. Since they have kids raising kids (literally, their family uses the "buddy system" where the older kids take care of the younger ones) I can only think that they get into stuff together that they would never, ever let their parents know about, lmao.
And yeah, they can take care of them financially, which is great. They even gave Josh and Anna a house of their own that they already owned, which I think is where their money comes from (renting out real estate properties). And it's probably necessary considering how very expensive it is for them to function and how quickly debt would pile up if they let it. But I can't help thinking how much waste they produce. And not just food/trash, but Pa Duggar cements his hair into place with hairspray HE GOES THROUGH TWO CANS OF HAIRSPRAY A MONTH, WHAT.
