165 -- Um, I'm going to assume that this was made before "Heaven and Hell," so hopefully you've changed your mind about Dean needing to stop "whining about Hell."
Because, seriously? If after Dean's confession in Ep10 you still think that Sam got the short end of the stick, then I would be seriously concerned.
For a man who dedicates his life to saving people without question or compensation, being forced to torture souls and do God knows what else is the worst kind of hell imaginable - and let's not forget that there might be even more to Dean's story in Hell. You really shouldn't judge until it's all been revealed.
Also, this must have been made before H&H, because if you can be sarcastic about being forced to torture other people, then...
Well, that would be just a whole other problem.

In addition, Dean is being so forceful about not letting Sam use his powers because he's fucking scared out of his mind. I think that's more than understandable, especially since he's just spent forty years getting tortured by the very things that he's afraid his little brother will turn into.

And just so you know, this is coming from a total Sam!Girl, so...

Thank you. I don't know where people get that a person just gets over Hell. I think he was right when he said there was no getting over it and there's nothing Sam can do about it. I'm seeing the same four or five people aplauding that comment over and over again in this post, and I'm glad someone has the guts to stand up and say something rational. I would do it myself, but I'm way too obvious in my arguments.

I can't speak for the OP, but imo, the problem is not Dean's characterization but the lack of Sam's. Dean has been getting a pass on douchey behavior while Sam is told time and again by his own brother how badbadbad Sam is for trying to do the right thing (even if it's in the wrong way), and we don't even get to see much of Sam's reaction to that. Even a lot of Sam's character reveals this season have been done so that Dean could react to them, not for the sake of understanding Sam better.

It isn't that Dean's position isn't understandable, it's that (imo again) it's written so that the narrative is sympathetic to Dean and not to Sam, when they are both hurtful and cruel and not always right.

I suppose it seems like this is turning into the Dean!Show - and haven't the fangirls been going crazy over it - but it seems to me like the writers have kind of focused the first half of the season on Dean's character but are revealing more and more about Sam in the second half.
And maybe that's not your cup of tea, whatever.
But we've definitely seen more Sam in recent episodes - and there isn't a "Dean's crying confession" scene at the end of every episode anymore...
