100% agree with this. And people who write villains in-character and don't woobify them still get people claiming they are woobifying them if they don't call them complete, pure evil every other sentence.

Gotta agree, and honestly I'm more fine with OTT woobifying because it's so clearly for the author than I am with less than the canon nuance villain characterization, since that's usually reflective of a very annoying fandom fight. Honestly I consider it bashing or bashing adjacent.

Totally agreed and it's really annoying. Character bashing is still annoying when you do it to the villains, guys.
