i've got like a thousand things happening and i'm v excited for all of them. most anticipated are two:
i'm performing in a drag show in a couple of weeks (for national coming out day) and directing a film i wrote for a día de los muertos event at work! i even got like half my family to agree to be in it for me lmao

1. When and how did you get into drag?
2. What's the día de los muertos film about? (so cool you got your family in on it!)

oh totally!

1. it kind of happened on accident really! i work as a graphic designer, and am also involved in local lgbtq advocacy stuff and that lead me to working as a graphic designer for a guy who produces drag shows in town. i make all his posters for shows where he brings up queens from the big city. eventually people in town went to him, as a producer, saying they were interested in performing themselves, and we formed a cabaret troupe where folks do drag and burlesque. our turnabout ball is on the 16th! and that's when i'm performing for the first time as my corny ass drag king persona miguel del sol ✨~

2. i was trying to come up with SOMETHING even tangentially día de los muertos related bc all the other films being created for the event were just generic ghost stories, but the event itself is día de los muertos this year (it's a long standing annual october fundraiser). so i called my grandma to ask her about her mom for my film, and she had a ton to say. in the middle of her stream of consciousness i thought to ask if i could record her for my film and she enthusiastically agreed! so i ended up kind of forming the script around the sound bytes i have of her talking about praying to ancestors and how that practice is more significant to her than praying to a saint and stuff.
it's called lotería mística! so in the film my lil brother is playing lotería w his friends, he gets a call from his grandma who tells him a bit about this and inspires them to do a cheesy ghost summoning ritual bc one of them thinks their room is haunted, and a bunch of ghosts significant to their families and culture show up instead of whoever is "haunting" their room~. then the lotería deck comes back into significance to help them understand what's going on kinda. my sister in the background is dressing up as like 7 different spirits haha it's very silly but it's fun.

I'm not a big Halloween person, but this year I plan on rereading a favorite fall/Halloween fic, rewatching the Gamera movies, and rewatching the good old Hammer horror films with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. I got some cute nail wraps for fall and Halloween, and its apple fritter season again and I love those so I'll be grabbing a couple of them, too.

Going on my vacation in TWELVE DAYS. I am so excited.

I was going to try another go at the inktober/spooktober/whatever but I forgot the first day right out of the gate.

Well, if COVID levels aren't down by the time Dune comes out, I'll go see it at the drive-in theater. I really want to see that one at the theater at least once.

I love Halloween, so I want to put up a few things in my office. My family doesn't do anything for Halloween, so I'll probably end up just watching horror movies at home that evening.

nah. we can't even decide on a Halloween theme for the year, even if we probably get to hand out candy (outdoors/in our garage, if the weather isn't ass cold by then. climate change, who the fuck knows anymore). I just can't be arsed to give a shit and the spoopy enthusiasts are already on my last nerve. confirmed that it's out of season hype I hate, not christmas itself, I guess - the same hype is applicable even to a holiday I celebrate.

if the restrictions have loosened up enough I want to go see Rocky Horror live on Halloween.

Normally I'd go to Youmacon on Halloween weekend, but uhhhh. Thousands of nerds (and at least one that I personally know is an antivaxxer) crammed into the RenCen and TCF... Yeah I'll be giving that a pass this year. And I shouldn't even do trick-or-treat handouts this year since I'll actually be home, seeing as our local public school population has a significantly higher infection rate than the rest of the community. :/

But in the interest of continuing on with the work of sharing cute animal pics: maybe I'll dress a bunny or two up. =)

What kind of bunny is it/how old?

Indeed, that's one of my four buns - her name is Sage, and she's about 7 years old now, I think. I acquired her almost exactly 3 years ago from someone who wanted her to live somewhere nicer than their garage, and they said then that she was 4 and a half.

I was told she was a netherland dwarf, but the "eyeliner" marking is the defining feature of the hotot breed, and there is actually a dwarf hotot breed too. So I'm not sure if she's a nethie with hotot spots, or actually a dwarf hotot. (I am no expert on rabbit breeds, because my buns have almost entirely been rescues with unknown origins and they're awesome regardless.)

Whatever breed she is, she is a picky, prissy little princess and thus deserves sparkly things. I randomly saw that hat on a display by the checkout at a local pet store back when I was picking up a smaller bowl for her (she's tiny and was having trouble eating from the bowls I already had), and went "Well, I know who'd look perfect in that..."

we dont do the whole halloween stuff, but i am looking forward to watching a few spooky movies and the animal crossing event
