Okay but like...the Search and Rescue series is amazing. Looking at the summary of the show, it isn't really the same as the series.

Yeah, it's not at all similar BUT it's officially listed as the inspiration and I think they bought the rights off of the author. All it has in common is the staircase, but whatever I appreciate people getting paid. Honestly, I didn't like that season very much. But my real point is that this story isn't obscure, it's one of the big ones and has a known author. So trying to pass it off as actual folk lore is silly.

None of the seasons of Channel Zero were that much like the creepypasta they were based on - Butcher's Block, the one in question, was by far the most 'what even is the relation?', and No-End House the most similar. (Candle Cove at least tied into the original story in the last episode, and The Dream Door took at least more than a single visual.)

Isn't an upside down staircase just a staircase?

I think I know the creepypasta you're talking about and I was always like... stairs? I'm supposed to be freaked out by stairs?

Much as I like the creepypasta, I always thought the stairs weren't actually creepy because at least where I live, random stairs that are left from otherwise broken down buildings or have been abandoned mid-build because of logistics fuckups (like financing for some sort of viewing platform got cut after they started building it and the likes) in the woods just happen on occasion.
