Who are some characters who you changed your mind about? Either you used to dislike them and now love them or used to like them and now really don't.

I was kind of meh on Frodo in the beginning, because I saw the movies first before reading. But once I read the books, I got totally on board with his character.

Same with Arwen. I don't adore her or anything, but I enjoy her role now and think she works as a character.

Ted Mosby. First few seasons I liked him. By the end of my first watch of HIMYM I couldn't stand him, and now when I rewatch I see the things I dislike about him even in the earlier seasons.

Cersei. Didn't like her at all the first couple of seasons, but she got more interesting, and Lena did such a great job with her, that she became my favorite GOT villain.

Hawkeye is the reverse where I really liked him in the beginning and shipped him pretty hard with Black Widow. But he just didn't get any good storylines and was really boring and now I don't care about him at all (though the randomly-thrown in family still annoys me).

Bashir on DS9. I started out not liking him, but he grew a lot as a character and ended up really interesting.

I liked Sasuke at the beginning of Naruto. He had issues, but I thought he was a pretty sympathetic character. Then he went all crazy and hell-bent on revenge and I started hating him. He was my least favorite character by the end of Naruto and I'm still pissed that he ended up married to Sakura.

I loved everything before the first timeskip, hated everything post-timeskip and I just haven't been able to get into Boruto at all.

I loved Sasuke in the first part but everything after... yeah, no. But then, I also hated Naruto after the timeskip too. I appreciated Sakura's growth and progress but hated how as soon as she was around the boys it was basically all for nothing, back to square one, just the pining girl again.

I feel the same, though it's not the crazy and hell-bent on the revenge part that got to me, since he had plenty of that toward the end of the first half and some of the fanfic I loved took that shit to eleven. It's the complete lack of accountability the narrative held the character to.

Steve Rogers. Could not stand him until I saw The Winter Soldier. Then it was all ♥‿♥.

Tony Stark. Really liked him until around Age of Ultron. Though, Civil War cemented it because he took up half of a Captain America movie.

Faramir. Didn't care about him at all when I was younger. When I rewatched the movies in my twenties, I really liked him.

I think fanfic really won me over on Steve Rogers. Not so much because of OOC/fanon characterization, but just because it got me thinking about his wider context. It helped me get over some of my preconceptions and interpret his MCU appearances more sympathetically.

The fanfic explorations of Steve's character have been the best I've ever seen. The detail and work people have put in to frame him properly in the overarching narrative is just glorious. Like head and shoulders above canon.

Didn't like Snape but fic changed my opinion.

I used to like detective Colombo but nowadays I don't enjoy the way he gets friendly with people just to reveal their crime. It's not exactly a betrayal but seems a bit like that.

John from Sherlock. I tried to get the actor's signature and he was the most annoying one about the whole process. Also he's an asshole in his interviews. It affected how I view his characters, including Bilbo.

Wow, I would not call Colombo friendly at all, lmao. That's really interesting to me that you find him friendly. Maybe my friendly meter is higher? I think he's just very sympathetic and that functions as a manipulation because everyone is expecting differently, but I think he actually is sympathetic?

Harry. I found him boring when i first read the first Harry Potter books when I was around 10. Then I read book 5 when I was about Harry's age and I suddenly found him very relatable. Yeah. I'm a bit ashamed in hindsight.

Now I'm an adult and a teacher to boot, I'm back to strongly disliking him.

I mean, Zuko, but that doesn't count. I felt exactly how the writers intended me to feel about him, the whole time. Good writing ftw!

I started off liking John Watson from BBC Sherlock a lot, particularly in the first episode. Then the writing went to crap, and also it seemed like Martin Freeman's personality got more and more mixed into John's personality, which was definitely not a good thing.

I always hated Draco Malfoy (to the extent that canon means for you to hate him), but then I ran out of fanfic for my OTP, got horribly bored, and decided to try reading some Drarry fanfic. And now I love Draco Malfoy--though notably I don't love canon!Draco Malfoy, just fanon!Draco Malfoy.
