But aren't they the only studio doing dubbing now? it's not like it was 15 years ago when they had to aggressively compete with ADV and Viz and the YuYu Hakusho dub was held up as the highest standard. I guess Viz is still around but they share a lot of the same VAs (doing a quick wiki google) but it still feels like there's only one game in town.

I used to be ride-or-die that dubs were superior but now I can't watch anything in English, including things I used to think were great. No one has any life in their acting, and it feels very much the same as Tress McNeille showing up to do Agnes Skinner But Not Agnes for the 10000000000th time. Even Jonny Yong Bosch is just phoning it in these days. It's not fun anymore.

NAYRT I don't think Funimation's the only dubbing studio. There's Bang Zoom, Studiopolis, and Sentai Filmworks. There are probably more, but those are the only ones that come to mind right now. I'm not sure if Netflix does in-house dubbing or outsources them somewhere.

For the longest time, it felt like Funimation was using the same twenty people in their dubs and that got pretty tiresome, but I think they're doing a pretty good job lately because I keep hearing VAs that I don't automatically recognize. Like the girls in Wonder Egg Priority actually sound like middle school girls instead of them all having variations of a fake high-pitched voice.

AYRT. There are few others. Sentai, which I find abysmal. I think Netflix does its own dubbing, and I find their work to be pretty good. Netflix does get some flack for script writing but not actual voice performances. I think there is a couple of others too.

The last two funimation dubs I watched were the new Fruits Basket and Wonder Egg Priority. I thought the new Fruits Basket dub was some of their best work and better than the already strong sub. I thought Wonder Egg Priority was also quite good.

tbh that's more a problem with the directing than the voice acting. I've heard VAs who I know are very talented be bad in some roles because the directing was bad.
