Brilliant design, op. I've never read any of the Harrow books (it is plural, right?) but this is just a really well designed secret.

Yeah. The lack of centralized fan communities has really caused the quality of fanfic to tank. Everyone is screaming into the void as an individual, and there is no way to bounce ideas off each other and develop fic that way no more. It is everyone's first draft as the final one right now. Plus there is no real big fandoms producing a lot of lore to develop into fics right now. It is a very fragmented fanworld.

Fashion research question.

I'm trying to find info on teen fashion in 1998 for a fanfic I'm writing, New England if location matters, but after doing battle with the hell that is pinterest I drawing a blank. So, FS, can you help me out with what late teen girls were wearing in ordinary day-to-day life in '98? Not high fashion, just ordinary fashions and clothing choices. The original property I'm ficcing was notorious even in its day for having its leads dress in stuff that was really not representative of teen fashions, so I'm wanting to be a bit more fashion accurate.

I tried to think of who creates lore and theories that become well-known in fandom at large. My first thought is MatPat.

Makes sense. Downloaded fics (and Bookmarks) are recs from Old You to New You. And Old You and New You share a lot of tastes.

The people who create lore ought to be the show's writers. It is a real downside of season long plots with lots of staring into nothing by characters, they don't generate lore for fandom. When shows were doing twenty or even thirty episodes a year, each with its own plot, then a lot of lore and stuff for fans to pick apart was inevitable. Or in book series, when every book had half a dozen MCs and a single per book plot, the same happened.

i mean once you get away from fashionable people things tend to be so generic that it's hard to do it wrong.
generally i'd say plain solid color tops, spaghetti straps, silver jewellery, cardigans, straight cut pants on the longer side, colors generally not too vibrant, if patterns then probably some flower designs or stripes. yknow, generic. maybe some flowy long bohemian skirts if you're feeling spicy
