I DID TOO, ANON. :C
STILL DO.

[identity profile] absurdisms.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
108. That's a bit extreme, but I can see where you're coming from. There's not much to hate about the movie unless you're an original anime elitist - and yes, those people are morons.

155. That's pretty bitchy of you. If you're so much better, why don't you actually help her instead of just making up excuses and lying to her? I hate people who just ignore people who are bad writers when the bad writers LIKE writing and want to get better - there are barely any people that could start writing and just be amazing at it the first time around. Help her out, you were once like her too.

158. I am so glad I don't hang around the Star Wars fandom. Not only am I afraid of it being infested by little brats that don't know what they're talking about and love the Clone Wars movie, but also because shipping non-canon ships seriously in Star Wars just weirds me out for some reason. (And incest squicks me out a lot more, and since I know a lot of people ship those two, I'm glad I'm not in the fandom).

Yay Carol! :)

It's snaggable, if you'd like it. I had to make it after seeing that scene.

[identity profile] zanzou-chan.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
102 - I don't think they're supposed to be military uniforms, because they aren't military. They're a private organization. I have no idea the logic behind it, but I'm sort of crossing my fingers that it would have something to do with the uniforms they wear in s2 (which were already there, not something that was newly designed by Tieria or something like that)-- perhaps they're there just to make identifying the Meisters more easily?

130 - Eh. I don't like him, I like what he does.

137 - I think that's the reason we get a lot of sexual secrets. People don't want their activities tied to themselves.

140 - It took me a while to get into it, but the ending made it totally worth it, in the end. ♥ (Echoing the point that length =/= quality, though. Seriously, why do in 10 volumes what they can do in 1?)

150 - Wtf, I have never encountered that. Also, it makes less sense, because Firefly came after a lot of those, and wasn't perfection. *cringe*

140. You didn't like it, fine. It's not for everybody. But it is widely considered the greatest graphic novel ever. Referring to the popularity of it, rather than the quality, suggests that you think that if something is popular it can generally be taken as a sign that is good. And, well, you would be wrong. And if you don't know that, I can't take your secret seriously.

Also, 147

[identity profile] fail-cookie.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. JB said in an interview that if someone ever made a movie about his life, he'd want Tom Cruise to play him because he'd been told that they look alike ^^

Re: 130

[identity profile] annwyd.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not the moral greyness that makes A-Laws lame so much of the time, it's the fact that we're generally told rather than shown (somewhere in between the elevator drop and the crushing all dissent) that they're morally grey. And not even that often.

Not that this problem is exactly limited to A-Laws.

Do you know what, though - I just really enjoyed looking at that secret. It's so cute. 10/Shakespeare made me laugh!

[identity profile] morgana006.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
140. Watchmen isn't so much popular as it is important (not saying it's not popular too) - the context makes all the difference. This was the eighties, and after years and years of stuff like this (http://superdickery.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=76:people-starving-in-the-world-jimmy-cares-not&catid=29:confounding-comic-covers-index&Itemid=32) with comics being "for kids!" and not being respected as a medium, all of a sudden there was a bunch of comics (Watchmen isn't the only one, but one of the most notable). It was essentially, one of the first comics on level as literature, rather than pulp. It had layers. It had depth. It had symbolism. It referenced current events. I read Watchmen right around the time I was learning about the Cold War in history class, so it helped.

I don't really blame you for not liking it, but I think it's more important than being 'popular'.

But the trailer really was one of the best trailers I've seen, even if it was kind of misleading.

154. I would love some fics exploring Sheppard's darker side. Those were some of my favorite episodes. Like the one in the mist with his buddies - and he's all cautious around them because - yeah.

156. Most of my fandoms have problems. Doesn't mean I don't stop liking them - but I find that it's better to know that it has problems than accept it without thought.

And I only casually watch that show - I only saw that scene because I was waiting for something else to come on.

I totally agree. The Super Junior thread is full of idiots and cunts who think they know everything and look down on everyone else. :D

I do to, but it's impossible not to let it color my perceptions of him a little bit. I wish he had a blog or something, so we could hear his side of the story, but it's just really, incredibly none of our business.

You did the right thing - it's a shame they didn't.

And that's understandable. If you think this could be a problem in the future (given how sexed up fandom seems to be more often than not) joining an RP with a fairly active moderator squad may be a viable option. While I'm not actively involved in RP at the moment, I know that I tend to feel more comfortable in RPs that have active moderators.

Aaah - wasn't sure if it was just a picture you wanted to use or if it was related so I was taking a bit of a guess.

Doubtful that I'm saying anything that hasn't already been said, but it's my duty as a nerd to tl;dr about it.

Watchmen was a revolution for its time. Just as The Dark Knight Returns was (also in 1986) when it came it. It took a genre that was built for a certain demographic, generally kids, and completely flipped it upside down. It invoked a new light and provoked thoughts on the genre of superhero comics.

Superhero comics... Marvel, DC, Wildstorm, even the stuff on smaller press labels like Image, Dynamite and IDW all take cues from these books. The wouldn't be what they are without it.

There are plenty of people who never heard of it before the movie - hell, I run a comic shop, and one of my regulars came in asking about it. He's been shopping with us for years and never heard much of Watchmen before the hype. But it's not because it's boring, or because it's 12 issues (a good chunk of the most influential stories in comics were mini-series. the Dark Knight Returns and The Killing Joke are two notable ones) - it's because it's not completely mainstream. It's a self-contained story. You never see the Watchmen anywhere else in comics prior or after this story. But it's always been there. It's not on Time's 100 Greatest Novels list for nothing!

Bonus! The second episode of Tiny Toons Adventures has a Watchmen reference in it - so just because you never heard of it, OP, doesn't mean the influences haven't invaded other aspects of fandoms you may be in. Books you've read and shows you've watched... a lot of them have reference to it.

140 - don't feel bad, anon. I read it and was underwhelmed also. It doesn't suck but it wasn't breathtakingly epic and "BEST COMIC EVAR!"

156 - THIS.

Can I ask what they've been in/you would recommend? I'm also trying to get into Bollywood movies.

137. Urgh, I know what you mean. At the same time, though, not being particularly sexual myself makes it a little less weird in some ways, since it just doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

143. I won't. There is so very, very much wrong with that. Jhonen would either smack you or laugh at you. Please get help.

152. While, thanks to nostalgia value, the first and second generations will always be my favorites, I have to admit that, objectively speaking, D&P absolutely pwned them in pretty much everything except for character design. And, yes, I will most likely play Platinum when it comes out here.

On another note, I'm more than a bit disturbed at how many secret-makers have been throwing around the word "faggot" recently.

I'll have to beg to differ here... knowing someone's an asshole can ruin their music for you, no matter how good you thought it was before.

For example, I can't listen to R. Kelly's music anymore knowing what kind of man he is. I just can't. Same with Micheal Jackson. And I've never listened to Chris Brown, but you can bet I don't desire to now.

Because, I heard it was an act of GOD (http://aphanon-meme.livejournal.com/517.html?thread=1568517#t1568517). What miracles doth anon meme cast next?

Really though, this secret might go over too many heads thanks to Homer, lol.
