140. It's a contextual thing. The book came out in the mid 1980s and at the time there was little to nothing like it. It was one of the first graphic novels to be treated like legitimate literature. And that's why it's such a big deal. I mean, like it or not, you have to respect what it did for the medium.

160. I get shit for not having a license all the time. I'm 27. I don't need one nor do want one. And even when I explain to my family that not having one is saving me hundreds of dollars on car payments and insurance that could be used, I don't know, on student loans, they still don't get it. So, I feel you on this one.

I actually don't live in a place where there is viable public transportation. But at the same time, I work at home and I walk to the stores; I don't expect anyone to drive me anywhere unless it's a day out with friends (which doesn't happen often as I'm pretty much a homebody), in which case I offer to pay for gas/lunch/whatever to make up for the fact that they are always the ones driving.

Exactly like me. Though I am quite lucky to live in a country where having a license is not quite as rabidly worshiped as in the US, so at least I don't get flack for it.

Same here. Not having one in the US sounds like an anathema, dunno why.

We've had decades of "A chicken in every pot and a car in every garage." So it's ingrained in our heads that it's a sign of prosperity, and not to have one is a sign that you're poor off. Which is bullshit.

I live in the US, but currently I live in NYC, so no car. Still, I went and got my driver's license the moment I could just so if I ever had to rent a car and drive the damn thing, I could. It just makes sense to me that if you can get something to get out of a hassle later on down the line, there wouldn't be a reason not to do so. Like if the car only has five seats, one for the driver, and there are eight people without licenses. So awkward. So phenomenally awkward. (It was a blast when we got there; still, we had to stuff two people in the far back and the rest in the middle seat, plus the fighting over who got the front seat with threats to vomit over everyone if both of them didn't get it, all the way there: two licenses would have solved so many issues, including the fact that I was on so much caffeine by the end of that drive that I was so jittery that I was freaking out on everyone).

Also, it makes the friends with the cars a lot less pissed at you (at least in the US, where we have shit for public transportation except in the cities - why are there no buses or trains?!?). But see Ferris Bueller's Day Off sometime to see Cameron's reaction to Ferris's insistence that Cameron bring his car over and drive him places.
