137. I'm this way too. Once I was in a fandom where it was common after every PWP for people to comment saying "I'll be in my bunk," and it was months later when I realized, oh, they're actually serious.

137 + 146 = OTP.

147. Haha! (Hint: John Barrowman is the one with the butt chin.)

165. Um, I might be right there with you? There was this one interview with both of them in particular that it just kind of occurred to me. He was talking about how he lived next door to her or something (?), and he just sounded so... lonely.

srsly rite. I still feel awkward when I read comments on porny fic that talk about how aroused the commenter is feeling. -_-

Lol me too! I feel like that's... oversharing. And it makes me feel a little like a Puritan. :|

Re: 137

[identity profile] ibroketuesday.livejournal.com 2009-03-02 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's Puritanical, I just don't wanna know about how happy in the pants the fic is making someone. Oh, well. (I used to have the same kinda thing about porn itself. I used to be incapable of reading porn if it was posted by someone on my flist, because it did feel like oversharing. But now I am over that.)

Re: 137

[identity profile] postal152.livejournal.com 2009-03-02 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I was the same way!! I used to read R-rated fics and skip over the sex because it just seemed too personal to read, haha, even though the whole point of someone writing it and posting it is... to let people read it.

(Haha, and now look at us. Bambi will NEVER be the same.)

Re: 137

[identity profile] ibroketuesday.livejournal.com 2009-03-02 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I did the exact same thing! I'd be all pissed, like, "Why does there have to be sex in this fic? It ruins it!" It's still the same sometimes, because (especially in Mylar fandom) writers occasionally tend to sacrifice characterization or plot to get to the pr0nz, but I no longer skip the sex scenes.

Fandom has corrupted me so much. I remember when I first entered TV fandom... people seeing subtext and writing fic about two male characters surprised me, incest horrified me, lolol...

Re: 137

[identity profile] postal152.livejournal.com 2009-03-02 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
YES, OMG! And yeah, I guess it doesn't bother me so much when it's labeled PWP, but sometimes (especially in Mylar, I'd agree, and House/Wilson) a fic has this long plot, yet it's very apparent that the sex is the point of the story but you're not supposed to realize it?

Ohhh man, incest seemed like this horrifying, twisted thing. XD I don't think I feel that way about anything anymore. Tentacles? Suuure, why not. Haha, I think I remember making jokes with people at school when I first found out about slash. "Can you believe people thought Harry and Draco could be gaytogether? LOLOLOL HOW ICKY."

Re: 137

[identity profile] ibroketuesday.livejournal.com 2009-03-02 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't bother me when a story is about the development of a romantic relationship between two characters. I mean, obviously, 'cause I'm a shipper, and if I hated that kind of thing I'd limit myself to genfic. What really gets on my nerves is when even the relationship is ancillary to the sex. After Heroes S1 ended, and the last we'd seen of Sylar was his blood trail leading to the sewers, a whole spate of fics cropped in which Mohinder rescued him, or found him in the hospital, and brought him home, never mind that Mohinder would never do that. The writers ignored Mohinder's characterization so they could get the Mylar boys together. It happens in a lot of other ways, too - Sylar says "Come with me" as he prepares to go on the run and Mohinder says "Yes", Sylar is held captive and Mohinder gets him out, etc etc etc. Or even the reason why they're traveling/working/whatever together is plausible, and their relationship is well-developed, but the sex is random and doesn't fit. I see this kind of thing in Dean/Castiel fandom, too, even though there, the larger problem seems to be that they fall in love too quickly.

I have pleasing memories of my reactions when I first discovered a variety of new types of ship, and how that horror faded into amusement, and then, occasionally, became something I enjoyed. XD Ah, slash. I was introduced to fandom via a website dedicated to mocking badfic, and many slash stories were brought there and ripped to shreds. I ran across someone who said they shipped Harry/Draco, and I was like, "Wait... I thought all slash was bad?"

This. I definitely read at least one of those Mohinder-rescues-Sylar fics, and at least one fic where Sylar got pregnant and they had this perfect little nuclear family together? But that's beside the point. Yeah, I've read at least one of all of those fics you mentioned. Then it doesn't even feel like Sylar and Mohinder, it's Sylar and Some Hot Indian Guy. And sure, it isn't the easiest thing to come up with a perfectly believable Mylar scenario, but it's possible. If you wanted to have them on the run together, why not have Sylar kidnap him? Although I guess that might boil down to people wanting to turn twisted creepy relationships into "hey, it's not so twisted, it's actually pretty healthy!" :|

Man, I didn't think I would ever say this again, but I'm actually feeling like some creepy twisted relationship fic. Has there been anything good lately?

Oh yeah!! Are you talking about godawfulfanfiction? xD

Ahahaha yes! Is it that badfic series where they have assbaby twins? ROFL. OH, MYLAR FANDOM.

If you wanted to have them on the run together, why not have Sylar kidnap him?

Or have them team up to take some big bad down, or have them forced to flee the government together, or--

Although I guess that might boil down to people wanting to turn twisted creepy relationships into "hey, it's not so twisted, it's actually pretty healthy!" :|

Ugh, that's what pisses me off the most about Mylar fandom. The fluff. Like those two could ever be anything resembling functional. If you ship Mylar, you ship two people who can never, ever have a romance, even if they have sex; deal with it. There wasn't nearly enough creepy twisted relationship fics in that fandom, which is sad, since that's one of the few ways it's IC.

I wish I could rec something, but I don't really read Heroes fic anymore. I understand your hankering, though. I have been having a serious desire for twisted, unhealthy Dean/Castiel lately. I enjoy the fics where they're all happy and in love - which, as a Mylar fan, is shocking for me to say - but I want some where it's messed up and manipulative and sick, dammit.

Thaaat's the one. Now every time I hear the phrase "bundles of joy," all I can think of are two guys that look like Sylar and Mohinder cooing over their assbabies. XD

If you ship Mylar, you ship two people who can never, ever have a romance, even if they have sex; deal with it.

What baffles me is the fact that they choose pairings like this when the majority of ships out there in fandom could be at least slightly healthy. Even in Heroes, like, Matt/Mohinder, if you wan the fluffy-bunny married-with-kids scenario. (I admit, I used to two-time on the Mylar a little when I needed my fluff fix.) I agree, there wasn't nearly enough creepy twisted fics, but I remember a few really, really good ones. *melts into a puddle of nostalgia* There was this one where Sylar kidnapped Mohinder and locked him in this tiny room to try to get him to crack and I think he ended up letting Mohinder go? Psh, I don't even know, it's been so long. :P

Twisted, unhealthy Dean/Castiel could be really hot if done right. You know, where it was treated as such. I don't think I've read even one of those. xD It's possible, though - Castiel's got so much power, he could definitely abuse it, maybe without even thinking he was doing anything wrong. And Dean has got so many issues, you could definitely make their relationship creepy and off-kilter. Hrmmm.

I remember reading one epic badfic (not in Mylar fandom) about a guy who had an assbaby, and then fed it sperm. *gags* The baby suckled at his dick. *gags again*

Even in Heroes, like, Matt/Mohinder, if you wan the fluffy-bunny married-with-kids scenario. (I admit, I used to two-time on the Mylar a little when I needed my fluff fix.)

Oh yeah, I totally read other pairings when I was jonesing for fluff. Before MattMo, it was Mohinder/Peter. I read the MattMo with decreasing regularity, though, as their relationship deteriorated on the show. It had so much promise at first, you know? I was squeeing along with everyone else. But then they did nothing but bicker, and they couldn't get along, but their fandom appeared to be convinced they were the OTP of domesticity and fluff anyway, and it pissed me off.

There was this one where Sylar kidnapped Mohinder and locked him in this tiny room to try to get him to crack and I think he ended up letting Mohinder go?

I read that one! He put him in a cage because he didn't want him to hurt himself. XD And then yeah, he freed him. It was really good.

I've never read twisted Dean/Castiel either. I've read stories with a tragic ending, and stories where really dark shit happens to them, but their relationship is usually pretty stable and sweet in spite of it all.

It's possible, though - Castiel's got so much power, he could definitely abuse it, maybe without even thinking he was doing anything wrong. And Dean has got so many issues, you could definitely make their relationship creepy and off-kilter.

The idea that's going through my mind is that Castiel is hopelessly infatuated with Dean, and Dean simply doesn't feel the same way. But the thing is, he wants an angel on his side, an inside man in the forces of Heaven, someone with the power to save their lives; he wants Castiel to be willing to give up everything for him, die for him, fight against Heaven for him if need be, so he pretends to reciprocate. Fucked-up relationship where Dean is using Castiel and leading him on and suppressing all the guilt over it, and Castiel is head-over-heels in love. You have no idea what I would do to see this written.
