I know what all of these properties are but not why the characters are described that way

I don't know who character on the top is but Jasper and Undyne are both very buff, confident, warrior characters.

I came up with an alternate way of looking at some of it. If you were a Jasper/Peridot shipper, and you wrote a version of Jasper who overcame most of her issues, stopped obsessing over Lapis, and became an okay girlfriend, you wrote a character who was a lot like Undyne.

(Jodariel is what you wrote if you crackshipped Jasper/Greg.)

I don’t really have a fic analogy for Wenduag, because I never saw Jasper go grimdark in the way that Wenduag is borderline hilariously grimdark. But when Wenduag couldn’t shut up about how she needed to be strong, and how her enemies were weak, and how the Commander was worthy of respect for being strong, and how if anyone thought she was weak, she’d kill them even if they were on her side, and strength strength strength blah blah blah, I couldn’t help but think “it’s Jasper all over again.”

Bonus mildly spoilery Wrath secret

I had Wenduag and Camellia in the same party. The “I was clearly designed to be someone’s waifu, but I will literally eat you” energy was off the charts. When I got the dialogue option to ask the succubus waifu with too many vowels if she’d ever eaten human flesh, I couldn’t bring myself to click it.

So if you wrote Jasper as... not like Jasper at all, she'd be a different character? What? I don't see any similarities between Jasper and Undyne except they're both strong.

Eh, it’s all a matter of interpretation. I wouldn’t say the Jasper/Peridot or Jasper/Lapis or even Jasper/Greg shippers were outright wrong about Jasper. They just focused on different aspects of her personality, put her in different situations, and gave her room to grow in different ways.
