Re: At What Point In A Show/Series You Liked Did You First Feel Like It'd Gotten Less Good?
(Anonymous) 2021-10-13 01:52 am (UTC)(link)Oh my goodness, a fellow Being Human fan!!! Hello!!! Dude, I'm so happy to meet a fellow fan, I feel sometimes that I'm the only person who watched this show.
I admit I did call it quits midway through the first season and saw a teensy bit of the third season I think, but at what season did the plot points you mentioned happen?
Re: At What Point In A Show/Series You Liked Did You First Feel Like It'd Gotten Less Good?
(Anonymous) 2021-10-13 02:20 am (UTC)(link)HIII!!!! Yeah, I feel similarly -- no one I know has seen this version (if they've even watched the US version).
I don't blame you for walking out around S1, but if you're ever in the mood, I highly recommend watching it again. So the wolf shaped bullet arc was S3 (I really fucking hated it, although I'll admit it's probably one of the few times I've cried over a character). I just felt like it was lazy (I won't include spoilers, but maybe I've already done that lol). Everything else happens during season 4, which I was not going to watch, but I stuck it out 'til the end for Michael Socha's goofy sweet self.
Would consider rewatching it ever?/ What drew you into the show (and why'd you leave)?
I'll shamelessly admit Aiden Turner was the reason I watched this show (thanks, LotR!). Came for the hot guy, stayed for supernatural hijinks. (And for all I came to watch the vampire, the werewolf turned out to be my favorite character. Got love for Annie though).
Ooh, these are some good questions.
(Anonymous) 2021-10-13 03:32 am (UTC)(link)I'm still so confused about what wolf-shaped bullets could mean. Bullets... shaped as wolf heads? What??? That's so ridiculous lmao, but I wouldn't be surprised at all coming from this show. A shame that they decided to kill off both of the main characters, alas... Even though I did think that the show got silly, I still liked them a lot. Thank you for sticking it out. You are far stronger than me. o7
Would I consider rewatching it ever? Yes, but only in a group setting. I've been doing a lot of discord work, and would even be willing to hold stream sessions for folks here at F!S if there is demand for it.
What drew me into the show? I have no idea how I discovered the show to be honest. It may have been a news article mentioning it, or even a TVTropes binge session (it's how I found out a lot about other werewolf stories) and finding out it was about the daily, routine lives of supernatural creatures was immediately attractive. I'm a sucker about supernatural/fantasy/superhero stories that are down-to-earth and/or low-stakes. Count me in.
Why'd I leave? Season 1 was so goooooood. What a fantastic, complete, and encapsulated narrative. It managed to avoid a lot of tropes that I hate or that I associate with a decline in a show's quality. Until they revealed the scratch on the werewolf's (Toby's?) love interest. I got a bad feeling that the show might decline in quality from it. As a werewolf aficionado, I'm somewhat really picky/snobbish about what tropes are employed, and being scratched once from a werewolf being enough to turn one into a werewolf as well is a pet peeve for me. But I was willing to push on a bit into season 2 regardless.
I knew it would have problems because it's very rare for shows to handle female characters as werewolves, and it usually takes a very dedicated and focused writer/writing team to be able to tread new ground well. It'd either be handled ambitiously, breaking away from tradition, or it'd find some way to rehash and shove in conventional television womanhood tropes in there somehow. And sure enough, the love interest is announced to be pregnant, and that was just too much for me. My patience wore out early before I bothered trying to see if it would recover. Fantastic first season, but I can't say the same for the rest, haha.
Excellent choice with your choice of characters and actors. I really liked them all being roommates together. It was fun! Sometimes I still think about that show's versions of ghosts, and how interesting an idea it was.
Thank you for hearing me blab about this show. In return I'll ask some questions of you.
Are you a fan of supernatural stories or creatures? Did you ever try the US version?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-13 03:55 am (UTC)(link)I'm so happy to have this discussion, thank YOU fir indulging me! I'll give you a proper reply in a few hours, and I'll check in throughout the day tomorrow. But i look forward to it (I too am a werewolf aficionado and it is SO difficult to find them done well, but I'll touch on that later).
Good night or good morning!
