I've asked various people about it. A biology teacher, a neurologist... They all had no clue. And stupid me always manages to somehow forget when the eye checkups roll around. I guess I'm so used to being blown off that I don't bother anymore.

This probably won't help you feel much better (and you likely already know), but being legally blind can be different from being totally blind so there's a chance you might not lose total vision. Also, not knowing your age, by the time you reach 30 there may be new medical options available to help restore your vision at least partially. I knew someone who had terrible vision and she had the lenses in her eyes surgically replaced.
As one person mentioned already, some doctors you talk to won't know what it is but there are others who might, especially since the medical field advances over the years and more information becomes available to doctors. If I were in a situation like yours, I would probably try to gather as much information as I could by speaking to multiple doctors who specialize in eyesight or by doing your own research on the different types of blindness. If possible, try checking with blood relatives for any eyesight or high blood pressure (which can cause glaucoma) issues they might know about existing in the family. If you get nothing from them, try to recall whether you had any bad falls or other head trauma before the age of six.
Understandably, this is a major dilemma for you (or anyone who feels such a big lack of control in his/her life) and you owe it to yourself to do whatever you can to get it treated, prevent it, or at least find out what it is so you make preparations for it. I'm sorry other people make you feel blown off, but you'll need to do what it takes to get around that or break through it. Sometimes other people (even family) are unreliable, but try not to let them get in your way. This is your future.
