Not that you can't fine random news about celebs annoying/uninteresting, but I find it funny that I only heard about this through f!s. Celeb news is relevant sure, but it's also pretty easy for me to just avoid it? If someone hadn't complained about it on here I'd never have known this was a thing.

If you use Twitter at all this particular story was sort of impossible to avoid. I saw it in my "What's happening" sidebar for three days straight and I have no idea who these people are or why I should care about their scat fetish or whatever.

Some of the people who are actually cool who I follow were also going "WHY IS THE DOUBLE TOILET STORY STILL TRENDING" a couple days in so it wasn't just me. Twitter's algorithms just really, really wanted everyone to know about these people and their toilets. -_-

I'm on Twitter more than I admittedly should, and I never saw anything about this

Lucky you. -_-

I really don't get the trending algorithms. I get dumb celebrity news all the time even though I never click on them (just see the summaries, and the occasional "wtf is this" post from someone I know), someone else I know who has no interest in any sports whatsoever gets a ton of sports news that they are similarly uninterested in. And this is the "for you" tab, so it seems like maybe Twitter is trying and just completely failing to predict what users are interested in. :P

Aaaand thus me and a bunch of other people who don't give a... crap... no pun intended... got double-toilet links every time we logged on for a few days.

AYRT.

Also on twitter, also never saw anything about this. Idk if my twitter algorithm doesn't quite suck but I don't get any celeb news unless I decide to click on the trending tags on the sidebar, otherwise I have no idea what's up with the famous strangers. But I also furiously curate my feed, if I'm not even passingly interested I remove the topic.

Yeah, as noted above apparently me and a bunch of my friends were just unfortunate enough to have this crap trending for days. I assumed it was everyone because so many people I knew were complaining about it. (And I didn't complain myself because I mostly lurk Twitter, so how many other lurkers were also seeing it? Or people who didn't mind enough to complain?)

I started off trying to curate my feed, and some of my friends (like the one who hates sports) are still really insistent on removing stuff but I gave up because it doesn't seem to make any difference. If I remove stories about some celeb I've never heard of and don't care about, instead it shows me stories about some other celeb I've never heard of and don't care about... if I remove stories about the local NFL team, it shows me stories about other NFL teams... if I remove NFL entirely it shows me European soccer scores... So like I said, gave up. XD

(I'm only there for video games and political snark, really.)

AYRT.

Oh that's really strange, I've unticked anything I'm not interested in, which is largely any celeb news/football(soccer)/most sports in general and unless it happens to be trending on the sidebar(which things like the World Cup will) I basically never hear about it. No idea why but it works for me, my feed is cats, cute animals and FF14 art and it's very peaceful.

It kind of feels to me like Twitter thinks that I must be interested in some facet of literally everything pop culture, so if I don't like whatever they're showing me on this particular topic, they'll try something else related to this particular topic, and keep going until they find the thing related to that topic that I won't block.

Joke's on them, ever since I was a little kid I've been hyperfocused on a handful of interests. :P
