maybe the reason your other fics hardly get comments is because they suck?

Nah. Actually, my real fics tend to have a fairly wide range as far as comments go. Some get hardly any, some get a handful, and some get lots. The fic that I personally believe is the best I have ever written got a grand total of three comments. I also have a few real fics which have gotten twice as many comments as the fake Mylar fic. All that to say that the point is, the quality of the fic - in this fandom, at least - has little to no bearing on how many comments it receives.

I think your problem is that your ship isn't as popular as Mylar, then. Ho-hum.

To be honest, I don't care whether my preferred pairings are popular or not. In some fandoms, I ship super popular mainstream pairings, and in others, I ship pairings that are rare to the extreme. The point is that people have deluded themselves into thinking that crappy fic is good solely because it features a popular pairing (in this case, Mylar). And I find that both sad and funny.

And as you probably know, the same thing happens in fandoms everywhere. I'm not the original commenter, or even a Mylar shipper- but I do wish people would admit their grudges against particular ships instead of getting all butthurt and militant over it. You wrote a fic just to prove a point? Seriously, your time would have been better spent doing a million and one other things.

I would actually agree with you if I had written that fic instead of doing something important, but the truth is that I came up with the whole idea while I was on vacation and had absolutely nothing pressing to do. In fact, I wrote most of the fic while I was lying around next to the pool and probably would have been napping otherwise.

Regardless, it's not like I slaved away at it for hours or anything. As the secret makes clear, it was something I threw together in no time at all. And really, at the end of the day, aren't there "a million and one" other things that would be better to do rather than writing fanfic of any kind?

Not if the fanfic is something you enjoy writing. God, the fact you were on holiday... your whole fandom has a screw loose. Mylar and all.

Hey, I never said I didn't get vast amounts of amusement out of it. ;) Granted, it was mixed in with some serious gag reflex suppression, but amusing nonetheless.

Truer words never typed. (But mostly because of the Mylar and other pairings just as ridiculous.)

The quality does matter when you compare fics about the same ship. Quality can't be used to judge the popularity between two separate ships. That's why the fic you think is your best didn't get many comments and the Mylar one did. People thought the subject matter was too boring and unappealing to read or comment on.

This is true in all fandoms, not just Heroes. People read fic to be entertained. Work does not always translate into higher entertainment value. You have to capture people's imagination and emotions. People will sooner forgive a fic with bad grammar than they will a fic that bores them to tears.

The real problem is you seem to think that the pairings that don't appeal to you personally shouldn't appeal to anyone with "taste" and that is arrogant and ridiculous.
