WALL-E is offensive? Oh, please. *facepalm* Ridiculous how oversensitive people are these days about EVERYTHING.

IT'S POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD! I mean, you know, it's not like fat people have feelings or anything. And even if they did, it's totally their own fault, all of them – they could easily be not fat if they weren't so lazy!

I really think you're over-analyzing the movie.

Personally, I didn't see it as "DAMN FATTIES ARE STOOPID N LAZY, FAT PEOPLE ARE DUMB." It was more of the message of apathy and distraction, and how that's killing us. If they wanted to portray "fat people don't have feelings", I don't think they would have had the two people fall in love, or have the captain a likeable character. They portrated humans as people that were inherently good, just a little lost.

And yeah, obesity is pretty serious...o.O Why is it not?

I don't think I'm over-analysing anything. It used fat to represent human laziness and it used it to represent it across the board – as though every single human would become identically fat if they adopted these habits.

And here's the thing – they wouldn't. You know those thin people who do hardly any exercise and don't eat very healthily and are still thin? That works both ways. There are fat people who exercise plenty and eat healthily. (I'd say this is me, who cycles six miles to work and eats five portions of fruit and veg most days, which is more than can be said for most people I know, but I weigh 200lbs so I must be lying, right?) Some people just are fat, that is their body type, nothing they can do about it, just like some people are thin and it'd be useless and mean to tell them to go eat a sandwich because you personally don't like how thin they are. Society's attitude towards fat contributes to mental and physical health problems for fat and thin people alike, and honestly? It is a much more serious problem than the omg obesity epidemic.

Yeah, it's nice of Pixar that they made some of the characters sympathetic, but that doesn't mean the film doesn't perpetuate and reinforce seriously harmful ways of thinking about fat. I'm recovering from those ways of thinking (slowly), but if Wall-E had come out when I was 18 and I'd seen it then, I would have cried myself to sleep the night I'd seen it and woken up the next morning with a renewed determination to starve myself 'for my own good', to punish myself for being fat. Just because I'm making a conscious effort to avoid thinking like that doesn't mean everyone is, and I'm sure that my 18-year-old self wouldn't have been alone. Tell me how that is a good thing.

p.s. it is not being oversensitive when it's about something that's contributing to and reinforcing attitudes that lead to a sizable chunk of the population being fucking miserable and hating themselves for no really good reason.
