So this one time I wrote a Mylar fic, partly on a whim to gauge the response, and unlike you I got very few comments on it. However, the comments were all from people that I respect, admire, and enjoy in fandom, and each of them wrote something more substantial than "moar plz." So I would empirically disagree with the gist of your secret. I wouldn't generalize Mylar shippers (I certainly wouldn't judge the entire fandom) by a handful of crazies.

Eh...I would normally agree with you on general principle, but it's no secret that Mylar fandom has more than its fair share of crazies. That's not to say that every single one of them is batshit insane, but I can definitely say I've seen more appalling behavior out of Mylar fans than I have out of any other shipping group in Heroes fandom.

But the secret is referring to only one instance as proof of the crazy. Besides that, if it's a "first" fic, oftentimes communities are more willing to leave comments and be encouraging. If this was going to be a viable experiment, the poster should have pursued it further - perhaps writing more fic, or participating in ways beyond fic. As it stands, the poster is making a hasty generalization about what may or may not be an aberrant occurence.

You have never ever taken a look at the SylarxElle fandom after they literally killed that shit storyline in a fire, right?
