It started with a random urge to write yuri in a fandom and my lack of a yuri pair in that fandom. So I flipped everyone—brothers became sisters, mothers became fathers, etc. But obviously just changing gender does not change the story, so I had to make some alterations. I think my characters are to the point where they're OCs for all intents and purposes now. Girls and guys are socialized different, and we react differently, so when I looked back over the story and thought about how it would change... the changes were big. Maybe it's anti-feminist of me or something, but I simply couldn't see a female version of a character making the exact same choices. Over the new timeline, little changes snowballed into bigger changes, and by the time I picked up with the story there was so much that was different that I kind of fell in love with it all over again.
Of course, there's the smut and the lol of it all, but that was really what hooked me. Fanfic is pretty much a giant "what if" question, and gender is one of the most basic building blocks of character. Changing it can change everything.
Also for the sake of randomness, I remember a DBZ Fanfic that sex-swapped Bulma and Vegeta, then proceeded to genderbend Vegeta, all within the context of a larger story. It was amazing. (B-chan, I miss yoooooouuuuu.)

106. If your friends would disown you for indulging in a silly vampire series, then they're not very good friends. You should start being honest; you'll feel better.
107. Writing is supposed to be fun. Reading is supposed to be fun. There's no obligation on anyone's part to keep doing it when it stops being fun. Just tell her that you're not really into OCs and let it go. If she's as good of a gen writer as you seem to think, she probably knows it's a Mary Sue.

121. You're absolutely right. They're just books, and it's okay that we all seem to disagree on them. I think the message is horribly, but an aware reader can enjoy the books and ignore the message. Can we please just squee and let squee?

You're concerned for your friend. That's brilliant. It really is. But don't you think that approaching it from the point of a fandom is silly, when the real problem is the relationships she's in? Especially when Twilight is the fandom for gods' sakes. You're just repeating what a million other people have said. She's not going to pick out what you're really concerned about unless you tell her.
And calling someone an idiot for their relationship problems is very classy. That'll definitely make her think over your worries in a serious, non-enraged frame of mind.

ARGH. I give up. Your friedns are made of fail. You shouldn't have to hide who you fangirl or don't fangirl. I'm going to be under my desk now.
142. Lucky! I get motion sick every time I start a new game (and apparently when I walk around in Archades WTF?) and it's kind of annoying as hell.
