My friends-of list reached 700 people not too long ago. (and no, i still can't wrap my mind around what that number actually represents.)

Frankly, while I enjoy the attention most days, I'm starting to not use my lj very much, and almost never for real life or personal musings. I feel like every time I post something that isn't fic or art or canon analysis, the silent majority goes "geeze, you're wasting our f-list space, why are you talking about stuff no one cares about, go back to producing already." Some days it feels a bit like work. Also there's this pressure to weight your every word because anything that can be taken wrong will be taken wrong, guaranteed, and if you have a bad day and say something insensitive or unpopular, even when you apologize afterwards people will remember it months later and be all "remember when she said THAT? Yeah, it tainted my entire impression of her forever."

Also there's the random anonymous hate attacking my personal life, sexuality, goofy quirks, etc.etc. and trying to psychoanalyze me via fics in a downright vicious way. Man, I love that. It's a really distressing feeling when you realize you've been babbling happily at an audience you assumed friendly (i mean, if they don't like your stuff they can just leave and read something else, right? yeah?) only for some vitriol-filled anon to use something that was mentioned once months ago against you. Really creepy. Thankfully it's been a little while since the last time that happened, but even months later I keep wondering at odd moments if they're still stalking my LJ.

But okay, most days it's pretty sweet that so many people are interested in knowing me. I just wish some of them didn't think I'm interested in yes-ma'am-you-are-so-right-ma'am-can-I-lick-your-boots-ma'am minions. Then they're all "but why don't you love me? your boots have never been so clean ;.;" I won't eat anyone for having a spine, really!

Well, meh. So basically, you can't just take a break from it? And these people think that you have to keep them happy all the time?

If there's really nothing good coming from it, is there any reason you keep at it? Or, is it just to keep a bunch of immature fans happy?
