Because the slash comm doesn't exclude all mentions of het or heterosexual relationships even as background or minor pairings and doesn't make applicants promise to be careful of their words if they've ever written het.

I have nothing against het comms, I'm part of several of the pairing specific ones, but that comm and its mods (and possibly its members) are freaking me the fuck out. I've had a far better experience with the big slash comms, even if I don't care much for their pairings.

Why?

I like het. I write het. I try to be as open-minded as I can and not offend my LGBT friends, but I write what I like, and that's Uther/Morgana. But that comm with it's "gay doesn't exist" attitude and screening anyone at the door for even the hint of slash-friendly thoughts, that's homophobia.

People like to look for reverse discrimination in everything.

If they just had it as a het comm then fine, it's a het comm, but they have an attitude that says "Gay stay away." Therefore, it is homophobic, and I do not understand why the people who commented on this cannot comprehend this.

I totally agree, OP. There's a world of difference between focusing on het pairings and vehemently denying even the background existence of a mere hint of slash. People so often take exception to the word 'homophobia' these days, but honestly, I don't know what else you'd call this.

Within the comments of their introductory post, someone says, "Thank you so much for remembering the percentage of slash in the real world..." Well, that's inaccurate because as much as they'd like it to be otherwise, there's not a 0% occurrence of homosexuality in the real world.

I didn't realise the mods were going that far; that's troubling (and seems totally unnecessary). I pretty much follow all the het/femmeslash/rarepair comms so I don't miss any fic, but erm, my OTP is Gwen/Morgana and I tend to spread my multi-shipper cheer wherever I go in fandom, sooo, I'm not really about trashing the slash on principle. Not being able to even discuss it or have it as a side pairing? Yeah, that makes me uncomfortable. :/

Slash *and* femmeslash are discouraged and fic even with that in the background are not allowed. It's not about *slash*, it's about GAY and that's what makes it homophobic. You would likely not be allowed to discuss your favorite pairing there.
