Sadly, I don't think all of those fans doing it "shittily" realize they are doing it so.

And learning to invest yourself in something in a way where you can handle criticism is one of those life skills having an avocation is supposed to teach you.

I know I sound like an elderly 4-H coach here, but seriously.

Maybe it would be more polite if we just ignored the crap and praised the good, though, partially because I am kind of okay with fewer fandom secrets devoted to complaining about authors who aren't good. If someone's not worth reading, it does seem strange that they're worth posting about. That always seems kind of personal to me.
