Please don't be one of those elitists that thinks I had to have had the game back when it was new to have an opinion. I wasn't allowed to have it; my parents wouldn't allow a video game system in our house until well after I was in high school; that's not my fault, and doesn't make my opinion any less valid.

I didn't say it was. Hell, I didn't have the game back when it was new, either; my parents stopped buying game systems after our NES died.

And now I'm a broke college student with no extra time on her hands to play video games. Again: Just because I've never played the original game doesn't make my opinion any less valid.

I haven't said anything that's snobby to you. Why don't you just admit that you don't care about it instead of acting like I'm an "elitist" for recommending that you familiarize yourself with the source material before gabbing about it?

You've got a bad attitude. There's nothing "elite" about OGC knowledge. It's easily accessible and I've provided you with at least three avenues. If you're going to talk about it, then play the goddamn game or have the courtesy to stop acting like your opinion counts as much as someone who has.
