Hehe, indeed! I love historical fandoms and the craziness of the Richard III Society.

I had no idea that the Richard III society was a thing until I watched a video about how archaeologists found his body and then all of a sudden YouTube was recommending videos and there was wackiness in the comments. My inner amateur fanthropologist would have loved to spend a month deep-diving into all of it, but unfortunately, my vacation was over only a few days later.

If you ever want to both cringe and feel somewhat entertained again then definitely look out for Philippa Langley in any of that stuff. When it was revealed his spine was twisted (NOT a hunchback but scoliosis) she was acting like some deep dark secret had been discovered about her dead husband and cried. In fact she was a bit weird with the cast of his face as well…

When I was little I used to go to the separate York branch Richard III society meetings with my mum (iirc the lady who ran it fell out with the main society because she preferred a more historical approach Vs blind adoration) and there’s definitely some normal people who are just really interested. But when I went to uni I let my membership lapse because I just wasn’t that into it anymore and I commit the “sin” of mostly being pro-Richard but still believing he’s likely the one who ordered the murder of his nephews. I mean, medieval (and Tudor) monarchs are all mostly nasty pieces of shit at times. I don’t know why it would be any surprise to anyone that he dealt with a rival that way.

I saw that documentary! I dunno, if they found the body of someone I'd been looking for for years, I'd probably burst into tears every time the wind changed.

I did see someone in the comments of one video say something about "we all hate her" and there were a lot of likes which puzzled me.

So she's the Richard III equivalent of a Snapewife?

Snapewife is probably an apt comparison. I mean, given she doesn’t seem to be Very Online I don’t think she’ll quite be running a tumblr/married on the astral plane etc but pretty close behaviour whenever I’ve seen her on TV.
